Well a few things come to mind.
1. Is your tank just set up? That may be the cause for the high nitrates, it may not be through its cycle.
2. What do you have in your tank that could be causing your bio load to spike ?
3. There are several ways to "Catch" Damsels. Some are not so nice. Once you get your nitrates under control you can "Rent" an agressive fish to catch your damsels. I.E. a trigger of some sort. Or you could go the other route and try to catch them when you feed them. You may have to just resort to taking all your lr, coral, etc. out to catch them.

my tank has been set up for a year,I think that theres to many fish in it.that might be the problem?theres 10 fish in a 49gal tank, thats why I'm trying to evict the damsels! I think I'll take your advise on the aggressive fish route.Because I'm definitely not taking out all my live rock!!

i dont like the idea. but if you must.
heres what i do
keep the net out of your tank water.. put soem flake or what you feed on the top.. when he comes up.. quickly scoop him.. maybe stressful but effective. saw my lfs guy catch a tang the 1st try!

I tried the feeding trick, but I have a nitrate problem and that won't help in lowering it.

2 liter bottle fishtrap. put a little food inside it a just watch it and wait for the damsel to swim in. I've taken 5 damsels out of my system this way including 2 today.

edit: I usually cut off the mouth of bottle right under the cap, make it just big enough for the damsel to swim into.

I tried that one, but with a 20oz bottle, I'll have to try a two liter, how long did it take to trap your fish?

to lower your Nitrates when you get your damsels out do a massive water change 40% and then three days do 20% should help. I had to take all my rock out to get my fish to change the CC to sand. They are not fun to catch.
