actually I have a small microgics that i use for timing on and off my power heads for a wave effect. I also had them turm my lights on and off. I just wrote a simple program with a hand full of timers and it worked pretty well. I am not using it now becuase it had a run in with my sump. When setting up my new tank it fell in. but you can actually get a mcro logics or compact logics for under 100 bucks (used). Yea its a bit much and since the software is something that I use daily its not an issue. Good luck and if I could be of any help let me know. Mojo

If you put in a micro logics, then you could run a duration timer or a day timer to turn on and off and you wouldn't need the timer. Add a 220 VAC varible resistor, you could probably get away with it. I'm also wondering if there is a control board on that ballast to that controls the output power...
Hmmmm....
I believe that you can download outdated versions of AB programming for free...if you buy a vintage used you might not have to worry about firmware upgrades.
Always a thought. You can do alot of great stuff with a PLC.
