Ok. I have made many many threads about RO/DI units and which is the best. But its getting to the time when I need to buy one. I dont know where to get one because I dont know what is really good.
My tank is a 75 gallon, it will be a reef. I have heard typhoon 3 or other airwaterice
filterguys
purelyh20
but I dont know what to get because the typhoon 3 is a lot of money. I the typhoon looks the same but is cheaper
filter guys seem to have good units but they all need customization and i dnt really kno where to start.
purelyh20 seems good prices but i dont know how the quality of their units is.
recommendations on different units or what you thikn would be best will be greatly appreciated. Please be specific because Im kind of lost with all the RODI stuff. ANy and all suggestions welcome.
thanks.

Call the Airwaterice folks, they will steer you in the right direction if need be.
I have the little Reef keeper for my 72 bow. It is a good inexpensive unit that will serve all you needs for not a lot of money!!

but now im not sure. the regular typhoon has Stage 1 - Heavy duty, standard industry size 10 micron Poly Pro Sediment filter.Stage 2 - 5 micron acid washed* Gem coconut carbon block filter, removing 98-99% of chlorine.Stage 3 - 1 micron acid washed* Gem coconut carbon block filter, that removes the remaining chemicals and chlorine. Stage 4 - 75 GPD FilmTec membrane** removing up to 98% of TDS (Total Dissolved Solids)
Stage 5
- A full sized, high capacity, re-usable DI cartridge. This vertical color changing DI cartridge removes remaining TDS missed by the FilmTec membrane. As the resin is used the color changes, and once the color change is complete you simply install a new cartridge or buy our bulk resin and refill it.
the compact
has Stage 1)
Heavy duty, standard industry size 10 Micron Poly Pro sediment filter.
Stage 2)
Genuine Gem coconut 5 Micron carbon block *Acid washed.
Stage 3)
Genuine Gem coconut 1 Micron carbon block filter*Acid Washed. This removes the remaining chemicals and chlorine. This filter is rated for 9,000 gallons. It's used to strip any remaining chlorine missed by stage 2.
Stage 4)
FilmTec TFC membrane 75 GPD (TW301812-75).
Stage 5)
One Mixed bed in-line DI cartridge 2.5 X 11" mixed bed DI.
but no other things lke RO onl valve, DI bypass n idk if it has a membrane flush valve
the compact three
has Stage 1) Heavy duty, standard industry size (1 Micron) Poly Pro sediment filter.
Stage 2)
Genuine Gem coconut carbon block acid washed* (5 Micron).
Stage 3)
acid washed* Gem coconut carbon block filter (1 Micron), that removes the remaining chemicals and chlorine. This filter is rated for 9,000 gallons. Used to strip any remaining chlorine/chloramines missed by stage 2.
Stage 4)
FilmTec TFC membrane 75 GPD (TW30-1812-75).
Stage 5)
One Mixed bed in-line DI cartridge 2.5 X 11"
this has RO only, DI bypass, and fast flush valve.
All of these have a ASOV, but do the membrane microns matter?

the smaller the micron the smaller the particles it will pull out
if I had to choose one of those three I would go with the typhoon.

Oops...... sorry yes I use the Reef keeper. I only service one 72 gallon tank .
One issue to address is the 75 versus 100 GPD membrane. When I last spoke to their tec. people a while back about another issue. We spoke about the 100 GPH membrane on some or their units
For Reef keeping they say always get the lower GPH membrane on any particular unit if the option is available. Less junk passes threw...........

all three are pretty much identical till you get to the last stage
Stage 5 - A full sized, high capacity, re-usable DI cartridge. This vertical color changing DI cartridge removes remaining TDS missed by the FilmTec membrane. As the resin is used the color changes, and once the color change is complete you simply install a new cartridge or buy our bulk resin and refill it.
the color change and refillable makes it more economic when you need to change the DI cartridge. and as stated I would stay with 75 or less GPD on the total output the higher the output the more expensive the cartridges when they need replaced.
