Need Heater Recommendation
Maybe it is just bad luck, but I can't seem to buy a heater that works right. Usually it is a problem with the thermostat not being accurate, but I have had at least one quit on me entirely.
Can someone recommend a reliable brand of heater?
BTW I have a 37 gallon reef setup.
Thanks

Thanks for all the good advice. Ebo Jager is definitely the unanimous choice. So that is what I am going to buy.

Maybe it's the Home Depot lighting system that I just read about that is keeping the tank at 80 deg.?;)

I can believe it. It takes forever for large bodies of water to change temps. Even with the lights off over night and thermostat set five degrees below tank, it will take awhile for the temp. to adjust. Water holds heat better than air does. Stick your hand in boiling water (212 degrees) or in a oven at 400 degrees and see which one burns you faster.

... i also have a new Won Bros Titanium Digital heater... it was pricey, but i dont have to worry about the heater tube breaking... and with its digital circuitry... it "seems" more dependable
I second Kip on the Won Bros. titanium heater w/ the digital controller. I had a Visitherm heater explode on me last December; I was watching TV with my back to the tank, heard a loud pop, and saw the reflection of a bright flash in the room. I went over to the tank and heard a really nasty noise in the sump, looked in and saw a bunch of white sparks; the heater element was exposed to the water and the GFCI didn't trip at all (EDIT - a picture of the aftermath is attached in the next post)  I was worried about that happening again, so I went out and got the Pro Heat II, and have had ZERO problems since installing it, and haven't even had to touch the temperature controller since plugging it in.
