Valiant's hanging in there
Right now he's swimming around, he ate earlier today 8 or 12 mysis. I'll feed him more tonight. I gave him a formalin dip today. I rinsed him off before returning him to the tank. He spent most of the morning resting behind a rock.
As I thought more what my father said about radiation...I remembered that when I had my radiation treatment for my brain tumor, I had treatments twice a day. So I decided that instead of dosing formalin in tiny amounts... I dose in larger amounts, very similar to my treatments. I won't do another dip for at least 3 days. Instead I'm going to put neosporin on him. For now it's day to day, but if he makes it through Sunday I'll be sastisfied that he is on his way to recovery.

Oh boy...please keep posting here. I don't want to crowd out this thread with chit chat, but I really, REALLY want to find out what's going on with you and Valiant. I'll keep a weathered eye on this thread...and a small prayer in my heart...

No problem
When I left at 7pm tonight Valiant was out swimming around amongst his tank mates. Flash, the firegoby, and 2 Sergeant Major Damselfish. The damsels weren't suppose to be in the tank when Valiant got put back in, but for now everyone is getting along. I just got home 20 minutes ago, Valiant was out cruising...I have a late dinner thawing right now. I am very happy with his current health, but I won't start to relax until sunday rolls around with no more relapses.
So far I know it was external parasites. The parasites left open wounds on Valiants skin. Which appeared to have become infected and painfully itchy. In the first treatment of formalin, after the 4th dosage...he didn't seem to be getting better...by the 7th dosage he started to go down hill. By the time I finished the first round of treatment Valiant was one step away from death's door. He'd had almost no interest in eating. Those next 2 days were the worst. I was scrambling to find answers...
After taking Valiant out of the QT, cleaning him with neosporin, and giving him the formalin dip today. I have finally begun to see real improvements. Yesterday and today is the first times he has been out swimming for more than 20 minutes. I plan to continue with the neosporin for three days, and then give him another dip in formalin. Depending on how he is doing then. I will continue with the neosporin for 7 more days, and by then He should have completely recovered.
Thank you for your prayers.

After I fed Valiant last night I noticed his skin showed the first signs of healing. The once open wounds had a crackled look, and looked as though they were started to scab over.
I got up at 6 am. I padded over to the tank. Valiant was up and swimming about!!!!
He looked far more awake than I felt. I am so thankful that he is starting to get better.

Good, I was worried when I read you took him into the LFS It stressed him beyond repair....I am glad to hear about it.

Yeah, I wouldn't have taken him, except that it was the lesser of 2 evils. He's a pretty good traveler, considering fish do not like traveling. I think the most stressful part was the QT. He looked so miserable in there. He got skinny too. He's starting to fill out now that he's back into the 90, and he still carries the title of "Top Fish". The two little sergeant damsels are scared of him, and the fire goby always waits his turn. I'm keeping an eye on those damsels though...and I'm not going to start relaxing about his health until sunday comes.
So far there is no sign of the parasitic worms returning. At least I haven't seen any squirming about.
have you seen Lisa's new fillies?
