In about a month or less I am expecting to get a mated pair of True Perculas from the Solomon Islands. I want to get an anemone around christmas time, would that be to from getting my percs?
I want an anemone that won't eat any fish/inverts I put in my tank.
No Bubbles,Carpets, or Sebae's.
I was kinda going for the Heteractis Magnifica, Or a Condi as long as it won't eat fish/inverts.(if there is a possibility of it eating these I wont get an anemone.)
Will my Clowns host a Toadstool?

Heck, you'll have to ask your clown fish. I tried for a year and a half to get my 2 false percs to host. I went through 3 types of anemones, bubble, long, tentacle, and sebae. They weren't the least bit interested. Then I buy a large daisy gonipora(which is not on the lsit of the preferred hosts) and they moved right in. Go figure. Hosting isn't something that happenes over night. It's like making new friends, you don't get along with everyone and friendships take time. Easiest way is to by a pair that is already hosting. Just keep trying

Wrong! lol, actually carpets are the best for percs, a green carpet, by the way if u say anything to this, some carpets are mean spme good, green carpets, the neon green carpet variety are the percs natuaral home. But they are very hard to care for! Jut go with a bubble until you have more experience, thats what Im doing, an my perc is hosting it happily. What lighting do u have?

There a a few different species of carpets, and they are not all natural hosts for percs. Infact some of them have been known to eat percs. S.helinthus (spelling) is a carribean species, that will likely make a meal out of any fish, including clowns. S.Hadoni (very often neon green) is not a natural host for percs, and there has been reports of them eating percs, while others have succesfully kept percs with hadonis. S. hadoni has been known to capture many other fish in the aquarium. S. gigantea, is a natural host for percs. Sometimes they are neon green, but it is not one of the more common colors for a gigantea. I have one gigantea that I have had for 12+ years, and have never had it eat another fish. My second bright purple gigantea (2 years) has also never eaten any fish. I have an S. hadoni that has eaten fish. I also keep an H magnifica (2 years), and many bubble tips (8 years) and none of them have ever eaten any fish. Some of the anemones that I have mentioned are difficult to care for with the exception of the bubble tip (AKA E. quadricolor). Most percs IMO will use a bubble tip for a host. I would recommend a bubble tip for your percs.

thats why i said some a re good some bad, and thats also why i specifically mentioned the neon gree carpet, its a host type of anemone, but its not for beginners, like u and me, go with the bubble tip.

Were the onyxes tank bred if so wow. I am of the opinion, that when you raise clownfish, a wise decision would be to raise them with an anemone in the tank, it will relly help i think

The onyx were bred from Rod who posted above, which is why I said hello.
I bought the RBTA the day before the clowns arrived. My LFS just happened to have gotten in a couple sweet rose BTAs. I heard it helps to have the anemone in the tank first and for me it seems to have.

Hi Gator :).. Have the clowns filled in yet? And did you get a chance to try that food that Premium sells?.
Back on topic. I see many tank raised clowns "dive right in" even though it is the first time they have seen an anemone. And I do agree that it helps to have the anemone in the tank first, or even better yet, acclimate the anemone with the clowns, and release them to the tank all at the same time.

Hey Rod,
No I havent tried your food yet from PA. I feed the RBTA silvesides every other day (it loves those) and the fish eat a big mix of brine, mysis, cyclopeeze, and flake. I hope to start making my own frozen foods from fresh seafood and a food processor.
But as you can see from my avatar, the little clowns are getting fat!! :happyfish That pic is 2 weeks old now.
Sorry to hijack, here's a pic just a short time after clowns were added. They were tiny then.
