used to use ehiem before i switched to a sump/fuge. never gave me any problems and kept the aquarium clean. They get my vote
I had the pro 2026 model.

I have always been a big fan of the fluval canister. But, with any canister be sure to clean it monthly. Freshwater fish you can get away with cleaning it every 2-3 months. With saltwater, whole different ball game. Very important to change out filter media to get rid of the trapped nitrates. On the fluvals you can buy spare filter pads, wash them out, dry and they are ready for the next time. They say to pitch them, waste of money, just wash them out. As far as the carbon, be sure to use a brand that doesn't leech phosphates into your system. You can use Reef carbon (I believe made by Kent) or chemi pure.
Fluvals get my vote.
