need help identifying this fish

bought it from lfs about 8 months ago it was the size of a quarter now it is about 5" think it might be a surgeon fish but i cant find anything like it on the webAttachment 213206

it is a unicorn surgeon fish for sure (related to the popular naso tang, however looks more like a lopezi to me rather than a vlagimi, did he have blue spots when he was young, and blue lips maybe? google some pics of both cant completely tell from that pic check out the pics

yes, it did have blue spots when it was smaller, lfs said it was a spotted tang but i dont think so , i only paid 10.00 for him

It is a Vlamingi Tang.

it looks more like a lopezi than a vlagimi, ive had both, their almost identical fish in juvi stage. However you can tell better at adult stage, but since yours still has the blue spots my guess is def lopezi not vlagimi they turn into a solid more greenish color

i geuss my lfs guy doesent know his fish he told me it was a spotted tang and would only grow to about 5-6 inches . any idea how big it might get it seems to be growing at a very fast pace.

whether vlamigi or lopezi, it can easilly grow to 12" take a look at http://www.wetwebmedia.com/naso.htm and read up on both, their very similar
