ok.....so last night i did a water change and cleaned up my skimmer and everything. i apparently didnt get my skimmer tuned just right and the dang thing overflowed!
so.....about 5 gallons of water leaked out of my tank and onto my carpet. my stand has a full wooden bottom. do you think the water would have soaked the carpet under the stand or do you think the weight of the tank would have kept the water from seeping under there for the most part and caused it to channel the other way. needing some advice on this one. dont want to have to tear down the tank however dont want carpet mildewing either. any advice??????

The carpet is probably wet, theres not much you can do about it short of tanking down the tank. Mold dosen't like saltwater so you should be safe. I would be more worried about the stand then the carpet.

Yet another reason to run a skimmer in the sump.
Just a down the road suggestion, may want to put a float switch in the skimmer cup to shut down the skimmer if its full.
Do you guys really think the water would get under the stand with all that pressure? I would think you would probably be ok?
My next question would be is that wood on your stand treated, coated, or painted? If so the the water probably wont hurt it. If not then worry.

even with all that pressure i would think there would be some wicking effect
