I have a VIa Aqua MSD-1 Skimmer and a Rena Filstar XP2 filter. I bought them used from a guy. I put the water in my new 36gal tank and pluged in the filter and the skimer. I primed both of them before start up. They make way to much noise. Dose anyone know of a good filter and skimmer that is quiet or atleast less noise then these? I could use the help so I can start putting fish in my new tank.

are you going to be have a sump/fuge? or are you looking for a hand on back skimmer?
in sump skimmer - ASM skimmer
Hang on back - Prizm skimmer

in sump skimmers are best, the more area the water and air bubbles have to miz in the better, in sump skimemrs are great! but for a smaller tank like yours you best bet would be a hangon back, although an insump would still be great for your tank, its kinda overkill.

Ya I bet they cost $$$? Do you have a rec for what would be the best hang on back skimmer for sound problems? Oh ya any idea on the filter?

the best filter i could tell you is a Protien skimmer, Skimmers arent cheap, even Hang on backs are expensive, i just got an ASM G2 for my 55, for $260, it is rated for 200 gallons (i think :notsure: )
but they sell ASM G1's for $200 rated at 150g, way enough for you tank, and at a great price!
Prizm skimmers are good skimmers, but they arent cheap, and they arent as good as ASMs or any other in sump, but any skimmer is better then none.

Yes I know they are not going to be cheap... but I am :D LOL. I'm going to ry to find a sum kind first I think. Then if all els fells I will look for a hang on back kind. I guess it's because I'm trying to do this all at one time it seem to be growing every hour in cost. If I wait long enough I might be able to talk my into buying me/us a bigger tank
Wellp thanks for your help but I guess it's time to do some pricing.
