Buckeye field supply....bfs 161 for $169 is the best unit for the money going....IMO
Comes with TDS meter, pressure gage and a good set of filters

i just checked it out.
is it complicated? i have never had one of these.
i have found that ro/di produce the same thing but through different ways? the di is through ion exchaege?
i can get a 3 stage ro with not Di canister for 100$..
i could get a 4 stage that is ro/di for 140$ and does 50 gallons per day.
the one suggested..
with the bfs 161 i dont need 75 gpd.. thats alot of water i dont need a day.
the attached tds meter will tell you how pure the water is correct???
do i need di unit with it? the di part removes .9 of impurities jumping from 99 to 99.9 % pure.
do i need all the gauges and meters?!
like i said im still investigating these things.
thanks.

The DI is essential in my opinion for a reef tank.
The TDS meter lets you know when to change your filters by checking your water.
The BFS comes with a refillable DI cartridge and really good DI resin which will last a long time.
I used to have the coralife 50 gpd unit that you are looking at. Believe me when I tell you, the buckeye unit is WAY better. The unit itself is nicer and the meters and gauges help you with water production and diagnosing problems. And Buckeye has awesome support and will talk you through any problems that you may have.

okay, thanks a ton.
im also glad to hear that they have a good support line.

i am going to keep reading up on these units but i have one question. how do you know the water is pure? just by knowing when to change the filters?
are these portable at all or do they need to stay plumbed all the time, i do realize you cant let the membrane dry out..
thanks for all your help.

You use the Tds meter to determine when your cartridges need replaced. The prefilters should be replaced every 6 months and the Di is color changing so you can see when it needs replaced.
I have mine hooked to a sink in the basement and hook it up whenever I need to make water. I use the regular garden hose attachment to hook it to the sink faucet. I have a friend with the same unit and he keeps his under the sink when not in use.

they make an atachment for the sink, and u said you used the garden hose attachment?
is it because of measurements or is there another reason?
im going to hook it up to an old laundry washer hook up next to a sink. im not sure which is a better idear? i wont need 75 gallons a day tho.
like i said thanks for all the help, i am going to put in an order in the next day or two.

************** is where I got my RO/DI unit and I abosolutely LOVE it. They are really cheap and have great quality units. I used to have a Coralife RO unit and I honestly couldn't stand it. It had really bad s.c.r.e.w-on fittings that got really annoying and it was incredibly slow.
