Need help please! :)

What are you planning on keeping in the tank?? Sorry in your first post I see you want to keep a little of everything......The 1W might be ok, but usually don't have the penetration depending how high they would be mounted. If you want to keep anything like you stated before you'd be better served looking at the AquaIllumination units.....Might be a bit more expensive, but the AI units are proven, and worth the money vs the linked units you posted.
I would mount it however I needed too. I can always build something to put it on or just suspend it. Like I said LEDs or much complicated and I'm just thinking of getting a clamp and calling it a day lol
So just to make sure 150w metal halide is enough for any coral?

I think your making the LED more complicated.... The 1w would work just your SPS and clam may not be within reach.... Where with the AI unit you would buy 1 prebuilt unit and mount and done!! This unit would/could be used on any size tank you might upgrade too..., whereas the other somewhat useless IMO. The units are plug and play.
Back to your question on the 150 MH!!!! Again limiting yourself with being able to move to another tank possibly, electrical costs, heat issues, bulb replacements and bulb selections are that great IMHO..... Therefore I still suggest looking at the AI LED units..... It will pay for itself!!!

so just spoke with the AI unit guy and he said a lot of cool things, which basically sold me on the LEDs, but then I get an email back from the ebay ad that I posted earlier, and they said they're unit is equivalent to 250w MH

actually they have a reef one which is cool

should I invest in this fixture?
It covers 2 feet by 2 feet area
its equivalent to a 250w MH

120 watt using 112pcs high power 1w LED (Bridgestar Chips)
The unit is still utilizing 1 watt LED's, and from my research I would be extremely leery that you would attain positive results using this unit on a full reef tank.

People will tell you anything to sell a product...Not saying that they aren't a good product, but it's a none fact(trial and error) that with what you future plans are; clams, SPS, the 1W LED fixtures just don't cut it...Now if you plan on putting your light demanding corals always up top then you could probably get away with it, but at times those options just aren't possible.
One thing in this hobby that will be stressed a million times is research your purchases....Money is hard to come by and nothing more frustrating than purchasing something then a couple months down the road having to spend more money to replace something that we should have done right again. AI units are "proven" not just on paper and specs, but actually user data......The reason I mentioned the AI is that I know that system can move to just about any tank setup you could possibly purchase or build....You might have to purchase more units, but even at the cost of the 1W unit on Ebay you go to a 55 or 75 you have a pile of lights sitting in the corner IMO......
Lighting is 1 of the major investments in the hobby, just as a good skimmer. Two areas I never would tell anyone to skimp on. Even if it means putting of the lighting upgrade or purchase for a month or 2, it is definitely worth the delay.I guarantee if you question the guy on Ebay I'm pretty sure his units don't have the capabilities of that of the AI unit.....I would also wonder if his units are an easy hook up to an aquarium controller as well???? Not that these things are of importance to you, but again you have to think down the road as well. What about customer support/service???? AI excellent support on their products.....
My choice would be the AI unit hands down!!!!!!

yeah, when I said I was "sold" I was referring to the AI units. I like the controllers and effects.
as far as the ebay one, I figured it was too good to be true and I just didn't know how to interpret what they said to laymen's term. Like I didn't know each bulb was one watt, or what 112pcs meant

This was the rude reply from the eBay ad
"It's actually 112watts, via 112 chips. But called a 120w panel.
If your leery, then you need to do more research and broaden your knowledge of LED chips and their capability. As the ad shows, there are 4 panels over a 240gal reef aquarium. That reef aquarium is thriving with life. Those 4 panels, replaced (4) 250W metal halides. They are plenty of wattage for the job required of them. In the end, if your still leery then please don't buy or continue to question the quality or capability of the light. "

Agree with Smartori.....Honestly nobody is questioning the claim that LEDs can't support/sustain a reef system.....The big question would be what features does his units have/offer or long term support? The message he responded to you actually gave me a good idea of the type of service/support you'd get if there was an issue with something.....
