I installed my superskimmer 220 in my sump of my 125 gallon fowrl....It is a fairly big sump..They give u two pieces of flex hose to connect to the venturi pump....I used the longer one and cut it so the pump would be sitting on the ground of the skimmer.....I didnt like the idea of using the shorter hose and have the pump floating in the air.......
Anywayz, I get no air bubbles in the skimmmer....When I take the lil hose off the silencer I get tons of bubbles but as soon as Its on the silencer, none.....Is the silencer messed up...Do I even need it......
Or is the problem how I have the pump......Please help!!!!!

The pump should be no more than 3 to 4 inches under water to suck air correctly. You may have to switch to small tube or cut the longer one. No problem hanging in the water from the tube. It weighs alot less in water.
Another thing you could check is to make sure you have the ceramic shaft in correctly. Mine wouldn't suck air well because after I cleaned it once I put the shaft in the pump and it cause the intake side to float alittle and didn't suck as well.
No you do not need the silencer but if you set the pump at the right hieght it will be very very noisy without it.

Get the pump up higher and it will make bubbles. No a air silencer is not required, but it should work with or without one if its setup right. No harm hanging the pump from the supplied tube. I have em hanging on that same type of tube for over a year and they never fell off.

occasionally my silencer plugs and I have to unclog it. it sounds like yours is plugged/faulty, shove a straightened out paperclip down it and see if its blocked. you can run it with out the silencer. if you want a silencer and yours is no good use an asprin bottle drill two holes in the lid one for the tube and one for the air line, put the line through the lid so its about a hlaf inch from the bottom of the bottle then add two cotton balls, presto instant silencer (well almost instant.)
