need help switching tanks

So my aquapod hood is breaking down big time, so I'm going to go and get a new tank today (not an aquapod). Here's my plan for switching over the tanks:
I have an old 12 gal aquapod that I will put my LR and coral into with my existing tank water.
What I was wondering is should I switch over my LS or just buy new sand? I guess I could do both, too. Take out most of the sand and add 10lbs of new sand.
I was also wondering how much of my tank water I should use in the new tank. I don't want it to cycle, I guess it might spike a little where I am moving everything, but I figure if I use my tank water it wouldn't fully cycle. I would do a 2 gal water change anyway, just to keep any spikes low.
Any opinions or ideas that will make this go smooth would be great!!

I would prolly use half old and half new sand when making the move( try not to stir up much if possible)
Save as much water from old tank as you can to move over in the new
think thats it lol

sounds good to me.
It will look wierd to see a black wall. Mine is all shades of purple. Oh well, hopefully my next tank will last longer. And if not, I see that they do sell replacement hoods. I went on Currents web page and they don't sell them. they sell all the parts, but no t the whole hood. so I checked into the nano cubes and they do.

I'd love to, but my husband is already questioning the 14 gal. For some reason he thinks the end table (solid wood not crapy stuff) might not be strong enough for a 14.
But I know it is because it's brand new and very solid. Not to mention I've had 4 gal. water jugs on top of it along with my 12 gal.
And wouldn't you know my lights started working today. I'm stil gonna get a new tank, but now I just have a little more time to research. I want something that will last, but if something does go wrong it can easily be fixed/replaced.
