Need Help! Who Knows Their Stuff?

I have a question about my reef.
My tank has been doing quite well.
Although my pH is a little low (8.0), everything else looks good. I’ve noticed a maroon like mat forming on my rock, almost like moss on a tree(only maroon). It actually looks nice,
But I do not know what it is. I strongly believe it is not algae. It’s almost like a sponge, but it is spreading through my tank. Not taking over; just little patches here and there. Can anyone help? me identify it?? Ranger, I Know you can help!!
If it helps I recently started doing
5% water changes every 2 weeks instead of 5%
water changes every week. Since this change
I’ve noticed I got 2 very small pieces of bubble algae. I’m not totally freaked out yet since every thing looks better than it ever has.And my conditions are good. I do gotta get that pH up. I would greatly appreciate help from someone
who knows their stuff.

You are now the proud new owner of the much loved and respected SLIME ALGAE!!!!!!!!
Good luck, and may the force be with you.
Read up all the posts on red slime algae and then you will have a better idea of whats in store.
I have spent the last 6 weeks systematically removing any of the possible food sources of this stuff and still it persists!!

Check your phosphates, probably in your tap water and get your PH up using a buffer, preferably Seachem.

Hi Chuc, can you tell me more about the pH and slime algae. My tank has 0 phosphates, nitrates etc, ect, but the pH is a bit low.
