Need help with canopy

I made a canopy for my 30g long. The lighting I already had was a 2x55w pc fixture. I had no idea how to put the fixture in the canopy or just take the bulbs out (if it's possible), so I bought a used 2x55w PC retrofit plus a 70w MH.
Now what I'm wondering is...
how to prevent water from splashing the bulbs?? the fixture had a plastic covering the bulbs... do I have to add something like that to the canopy??

thanx in advance for your help,
Stella

Mine are only like 4" off the water, I don't have anything covering them, just wipe em down every week.

If you hang your lights 4-8" above the water, you shouldn't have any problems. I have my 175w's 8 inches off the water. There are covers on mine, but unless your fish are jumpers you won't have any problems. Here is a pic.

thanx... and what about the uv rays from the MH , it's only 70w though, that won't hurt the fish? or the corals??

Look and see if you can find some sort of universal cover. If not, I don't think that 70w is going to produce enough UV to affect anything.
