Need help with disaster

While making some changes this weekend, I stressed my Sea Apple and he released his poison, killing all my fish and shrimp. At the time it was in my fuge and isolated from my display. I scooped out all the water to remove the poison. Do I need to remove all the sand as well, or will removing the water remove/dilute it enough to not cause any problems?

Doing a few water changes as well as running carbon for a few days before hooking it back up to your main system would be advisable.
