Ok so i was just watching my tank and just finished testing it and everything. All is perfect. Amm 0 nitrate 0 nitrite 0 salinty is 1.020 Cal 480
My frogspawn has appeared to have lost its feather whatever that comes out of the opening of it. I guess a new one is starting to appear now though but i was really worried. But now i think i have messed up because i grabbed a measuring cup and put about not even probably 1/8th or 1/6th of a cup of salt and some RO water mixed it up and poured it into tank and now EVERYTHING closed up. All my zoanthids and polyps. DID I DO SOMETHING REALLY BAD by doing that ? Please let me know!!!! THANKS

1.020 salinity level is NOT perfect. In fact, it is very low and needs to be at 1.025. If the salt was not mixed well and crystals poured into the tank, then you obviously burned the corals a bit with the salt and you need to mix your salt better and get your salinity in check, cause it is NOT perfect.

Hopefully you mixed your salt well. If you see white particles in the mixture of salt and water, Don't add it to your tank. Wait until the water looks completely clear because if you don't, when the particles touch the corals, it will burn them.
Also, try to raise your specific gravity a little higher. Maybe between 1.023-1.025 Hopefully, everything will be ok. just keep an eye out. Let us know what happens.

mix your water in a tub for at least 24hrs and test before you add to your tank.(use a power head and a heater)

yeah i got my water mixing overnight ! I went to the LFS and also bought 4 gallons of premixed saltwater. I believe they use oceanic salt. So how many gallons should i changed in the water change ? this will be the second time i have done a water change. had the tank for 7 weeks going, Also the frogspawn is alot better and the other corals are seeming to have opened up now. A couple yellow polyps never fully opened but hopefully i did not kill them. I know i am learning day by day and this is all helping me so thanks for all your advice and comments.

What are you using to test your specific gravity? Hydrometers are not very accurate. I would suggest investing in a refractometer if you can afford one, you can pick one up for about $50 or so new. I agree that you should shoot for a higher Sg. I also agree that 1.025 would be optimal. When you consider how much money gets invested what is in the tank, don't skimp on testing equipment, it can save you money (and stress) in the long run.
Good luck.

yeah definetly get a refractometer...before i got one my hydrometer tested at 1.025 and i thought everything was fine, then i got the refractometer and it was 1.032

I agree with all previous comments. I just ave to ask though, what do you mean your frogspawn lost it's feather? Do you mean your Feather Duster lost it's crown of feathers? I mean no offense, but frogspawn dont have feathers. If you mean Feather Duster, give it time, correct your sg, and in acouple weeks it will grow new feathers if it actully dropped its crown. Sometimes Feather Dusters can take a while to adjust to their new home and just wont come out. I have a coco worm that took over two weeks to come out when the lights were on. It took over a week to come out at all. Patience, Research, and Patience. I hope I have not come across rude. No ill intentions.

My hydrometer reads 1.021 on a consitant basis, but I know it's actually at 1.025. Hydrometers are GARBAGE. NEVER make adjustments to your salinity based on a hydrometer reading. The only thing they are good for is giving them to your kids to check your salinity so they feel like they are helping you with the tank. I don't understand why people still sell them.
