I dont know much about pre drilled tanks as I pretty much do everything DIY.. but if ReefNut says they are ok then I wouldnt worry about them and leave them as is..

yes im going to have the lfs drill the holes for me I think the appearance will be much more apeasing to the eye. Im thinking I have a old rubber container ill drill up and try this first so I can make any modifications if neccessary if all goes well then ill do the glass or acrillic tank. the lights I will do next weekend I want to have them hang from the inside top of the stand. I dont have any expirence with pre drilled hole either but if i never try ill never learn. the fugie return you have from the fugie to the sump that doesn't just drain does it? do you have a pump pushing it?

I think what Razor was refering to is the line from your tank to the sump... If you didn't have a internal overflow in the display tank it could cause real problems. "Reef Ready" usally means internal overflows with drilled holes in the bottom... much better than externals.
Splitting the line from the overflow to feed the refug will be gravity driven and the drain back to the sump will be also, so no pumps should be required.

razor and NUT!
i dont like the outcome of can filters with water quality especially bubbles.
my tank is not reef ready and is already set up, 60 gal FOWLR, skimmer, LS and the can filter. I also hate seeing all the intakes and return nozzles int he tank from the can filter and skimmer. Is it possible for me to go from a setup like this which is already running to a sump/fuge setup?
would i need a sump/fuge setup with a FOWLR?
What if I rid my tank from my can filter and just run the skimmer and maybe add a lil more LR, would that be ok? If i took that route i would remove the ceramic rings in the filter slowly then get rid of the can filter completely...

you can use a sump. but you are still going to have nozzels in the water. the tank is not reef ready mine is reef ready and I have nozzels and power heads in the tank what I did is try to auquascape my rocks to hide the powerheads the best I could. you'll have a over flow box and the return nozzel in the tank with the sump, but I feel you will have better circulation and water flow. IMHO I would get sump but thats my opinion.

 :notsure:
Hi everyone,
I was thinking of doing a 20gal refugium...
I have the tank already but it is not a long just regular.
My tank is not drilled or reef ready.
How would I get the water out and in ?
How/ what do I do /need to build this???
I have a 125gal tank as main tank......
I don't know anything about the "refugium" but was told I should have one for better filtration....
I am currently running a magnum 350 and and Eheim Pro 2028
with live sand a alot of live rock.
I have reefsafe fish and just added a carpet anemone (MH's coming soon) and want to add more later, corals maybe etc...
ANY info would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance:D

If you look at razors set up that a perfect example of a fugie built
from the overflow box. IMO I would try to go a bit larger on the fugie for a tank that size, and also try to get a better skimmer. You also need to decide where you want your fugie some put it under there tank, some put it next to there tank, and some make a sump with a seperate section for there fugie. The way razor did his seemed like the less expensive, and not so complicated for me. With using natures gravity to feed the sump(no pumps)
Do you have an overflow to a sump?
if you do you basically need hose, t valve, ball valve, bulkhead, preforated screw cap thread tape and a tank/stand
The fugie should be lower than the main tank and higher than the sump to assure gravity takes the water to where it needs to go I dont know what sizes you would need that would depend on your set up but thats the basic supplies you would need. Good luck on your project.

Thank you!
So I can do a hang on overflow correct ?
I only have 8" of wall space behind the tank, would this work?
Thanks
p.s.
What does IMO mean ??? Sorry, I don't mean to sound stupid but am kinda new to the salt hobby.

ReefNut-
Your design looks easier to me, do you think a 20gal under the main tank would work ?
Thanks for your input and time

The bigger the better but a 20g is better than nothing... one thing I don't like is I don't have room for the skimmer because most of the tank is dedicated for the refug. A 20g is about all that would fit under my stand or it would be bigger:)

nemo lover thank you for your time ......
I don't have a sump or overhang and no room around the tank just under it.:notsure:
Do you think that a hang on refugium would be ok to use ?
I seen a nice one that is 19.25x4.5x12. I am not sure what to do, what would be better for my tank.
I am only going to have a little bit of coral and a couple of anemones.
Do I really need a refugium or would the smaller hang on one work or should I try to do one under the tank ?
I have been racking my brain and I just want my tank to be healthy and happy but it isn't going to be a "true" reef tank....
What would you do ???
Thanks again for your time
