Need help with overflow gurgle...

When I did my plumbing I put a ball valve on the return line. I decided to slowly close it to see if I could stop the noise. I closed it half way and the noise completely went away. I never put a tee with a piece of hose going back into the sump and I don't want to end up overworking the pump so I reopened it until I can get around to making the changes.
What I don't understand is why they say it is an 800gph overflow if it can't even keep up with a 500 gph pump.

Well, at least you seem to have proven my hypothesis.

Anyway, I did a water change, and the water level in my refugium went up a bit. The drain is now submerged a lttle more than usual, and the occasional gurgle has stopped, at least for the last hour or so. Just a thought.

Hmm IDK how much water I can add to mine and be comfortable. Maybe I'll try making the pipe longer so its under the water further.
