what are you asking? what do you already have? what is your budget? what kind of livestock and corals do you want to keep?

I'm asking what equipment I need to run a successful 55g saltwater tank. All I have is a biocube so I don't have any additional equipment.
I want to keep Sps and lps corals and Mabry an anemone but I don't know yet.

Lets see...
  • Skimmer
  • filter ( I use canister filters because they don't require drilling and lots of pipe work)
  • For a 55g...a least 2 power heads...3 even better
  • Lights
2 heaters (1 for each side, if one gives out you have the other)
An auto top off unit if you can afford it. (optinal)
    Stand (canopy..optional)

look in craigslist for a used set up
500 should be good
metal halide lights maybe 2 250 or 2 175
30 gallon sumps or larger
good skimmer, asm 2 or 3 reef octopus
chiller 1/4 hp
good powerheads
