Need help with skimmer

My skimmer was running fine, but last week I noticed it was full of water. I checked the book and it says it is too low in the water. BUT, I can't raise it any higher, my lid just pushes it right down again. I tried taking out some of the water to lower the water level, but then it was too low for my pump and millions of air bubble shot out.
How do I lower my water level, but keep it high enough for my pump? I barely have any water in my pump section.
I have a 12 gal aquapod. I took out my sponge in the first section and put in 2 bags of carbon. I took out the ring things in the second and put my protien skimmer. I took out the ball things in the third and put a foam thing to reduce micro bubble from my skimmer and in the 4th I have my pump.

I agree with Jeepman3sk, the fission skimmer is worthless, take it back. I know a couple of people who have them and they dont do anything. I took mine back to the LFS, so he decided he would try it and show me that it would work. After a week he said that it was a waste of money and time and was sending all of his back and not going to sell anymore of them.

Hmmmmmm. evidently I must have gotten screwed with the Fissions (2 of them) that I bought then, becasue mine work and works just fine...Ya mean they are not supposed to work?
Water level is critical, and I do find that they work best if placed in a sump. Not at all familiar to any degreew with the Aqua POds of JBJ nanos, but a heap of folks have em on the nano cube forum and love em.....and they work. May pay you to take a look at that forum and see what and where the skimmer really needs to be in the Aqua Pod etc and what others have come up with. My LFS is out of them at the present time, and can't keep enough in stock......and have yet 2 more on order.......

Well, I am sooooo happy for you.
I have only read where only a few people were happy with them.

I have less nitrates by using Purigen than that protien skimmer.
Nitrates w/skimmer - Always between 10 - 20 (tested twice a week for 3 weeks)
Nitrates without skimmer using Purigen - Always 2.5 (tested twice a week for two and a half weeks)
Check out this link: http://www.reefsanctuary.com/forums/...1-purigen.html
