hello all,
i recently bought a few corals the other week and i cant remember if i got a name of this one and if so i cant remember the name of it. any help would be greatly appreciated! here is a photo.
its the one that is purple with the green spots on the inner side. it has long stony tubes that open on the top and have a fleshy almost mushroom like top piece. thanks, brian.
p.s. i know in the photo it kind of looks like a candy cane coral but its not by any means anything similar.

Like to see clearer closer picture but it could be Blastomussa sp.
Here is a picture of one from another reefer.

I think it's a Trumpet Coral, which is either a relitive or a synonem for Candy Cane. From what I've seen, Blastos group together like a ball while yours seems to have stalks that are seperated slightly. I don't know how to explain that better, but it sounds right to me. lol

no its definately not a candy cane coral. i have two candy canes in my tank and thins is waay different. doesnt inflate like a candy cane it expands like a mushroom. and it has long tubes (about 2 inches) that each expandale top sits a top. it even deflates and shrivels just like a mushroom, it looks a lot like the coral in pic number one in this post in the reply sections but not as bulbous. the ones i have inflate paper thin and expand about a 1/4 inch to a half inch.

Yes, that's right - it's not a candy cane: It's Blastomussa merletti...
And, again, the 'coral in pic number one in this post' is Blastomussa wellsi.

Hey Meowzer - thanks for the greeting! Yeah, it's been quite a while since I've been on SWF. A little busy (really busy, actually) and a touch distracted, but I logged on last night, saw this thread, and I just couldn't let an ID thread go without my assistance

I believe you were working on a seahorse tank the last time I was online, how has that gone for you?

Not too good...I got 2 seahorses, and after 6 months I lost one (from what???) and then about a week later the other.
It was heartbreaking so I am staying away from them for now....

I am busy enough with the 225G, 54G and now I have a 29G

Sorry to hear that - seahorses are hard and they take a lot of knowledge, care, and luck. I'm up to 3 tanks now, too, and I agree - that's enough!
