I found a complete Icecap 430 ballast with 3 bulbs that say super actinic/ VHO-1 for 125.00. Is this a good deal??
Going to go over tomorrow and buy them if they are. Right now I'm running on PC so this would be an upgrade. Thanks for the input!

IceCap 430 can overdrive 2 54w T5HO bulbs, would be good with individual reflectors; that would be a way better upgrade than the PC
If you can find an IceCap 660 to overdrive 4x54w bulbs with individual reflectors, then that would be great. the only thing is the bulbs will be need to be cooled down from both ends since heat destroys the bulbs
thats assuming you have a 48" tank

Yes, I do have a 48" tank. I already bought the lights. They do have individual reflectors. One of the three lights is a moonlight. The only thing missing is a hood, which I plan on building. Any advice on this??

hm, if you can plan out a canopy that would be awesome. make sure you plan out the way youd like; have it be functional. you can build a good one for maybe 100-120 bucks. drill some holes on both ends and put computer fans to blow in, and towards the back have them suck the air from inside to blow outside
now that youve got your icecap 430 ballast, itll only run 2x54w bulbs, they overdrive the bulbs slightly. the next thing you should do is look for an icecap660 ballast to overdrive 4x54w bulbs, and look for individual reflectors--- i think the best are by IceCap, the SLR reflectors. youll need to buy the end caps and stand offs, and the reflectors, with the ballast. then you'll have a good setup
if you want advice on what kind of brand of bulbs to look into, look at ATI, Geisman, UVL. Youll have to pick a good combination for the color you want

Ok, Thanks for the info... I'll work on the canopy in a few weeks. Got a lot of projects going right now. I've been looking on Icecap's site at the 430 and all the info I can get. I'm not a light guru so it's all new to me with all the different options of lighting and such. I really appreciate the info.
