I like the twinkling ones. Get the ones you can adjust, because if they go so fast they are kinda tacky. But if you get them twinkling kinda slow they look real cute. And always go with colored.:jumping:

I use both together. One string clear/white and that one is solid, the colored ones I have set to blink.:santa:

I ran 2 sets on lights. White in a series and colors in a series. If I plug in 1 my tree is all white, the other only colors. Kids like colors, adults like white so I did both. When you plug them both in at once it looks like washed out colors. Tonight, I'll show pics.

Sorry, I'm an idiot. I misread what you wrote. You want OUTSIDE ideas right?? I know you hate icicles but I like white icicles and everything else in color.
When your driving down the street at night, somewhere near the city, squint your eyes & look at all the lights. All white but not to Christmassy if you ask me. All white lights look like any other lights to me. You can save a lot of time by simply putting a streetlight in your front yard j/k. But that's just my opinion.

Damn it, I ended up with "Icicles" again....(I hate those things... )
Multi-colored, steady "dripping" off the porch...with a steady White single "outline" around the roof line...
And "Twinkling" (multi-programable, multi-colored) around the doors and windows...
:santa:

Squidd why do you hate icicles? I am asking because I just made my husband go and buy some outside lights for our new house (we clossed on Thursday!!!!) the kids and I are going to PA on friday night and I wanted to have the house all lit up for them when we arrive.
Is it a personal preference or a maintenance issue?
I am hoping you respond soon so I can call his cell and tell him to get another kind if needed

I guess it's just a "personal" thing....:D ...tied in with maintenance...
When you "first" get them, they are "packaged" all folded over (back/forth, back/forth) so when you spread them out they hang kind of "spring-y" and zig-zaged..
.After a while they "straighten out" (like if you leave them up all summer...:D )
But if you take them down and put them in a box...(there is "no good way"..) you end up with the "box of tangled barb wire" that I had a couple weeks ago...
But, they do look cool, and add a lot of color...:santa:
(and "congratulations" on the new house):jumping:

If you use color lights, they look great the first year, but the second year some of the painted bulbs would have started to fade or turn a darker color due to the heat of the bulb.
By the 2nd year, the paint starts chipping off, and now you have colored lights with little white dots.
You must have finished this project by now. Lets see some pics!

I tried a "few" shots in the dark...
But you can't "see" anything...
If I do the flash...you lose the effect...
Probably need to play with the "settings", exposure, etc... some more..

Yep. If anyone knows how to take cool shots of the Christmas Tree and Outdoor decorations, let us know. I'd like to get a "real" shot of my Christmas tree.
