Ok i had a 29g nano tank that i got my wife and she loved it for a while and we moved and turned it into a freshwater. And if your lookin for a cheap hardy fish a gamma is nice. It lived throughout the 3 day move in like 2" of water and no food. It was hiding in the rock. But anyway, she wants to get a new tank set up. My local petstore has a few tanks decently priced but what is better a hexagon or a square? its probably all personal pref but she wants her clowns for sure and i like my crabs and starfish and another goatfish if i can find 1. Also I need to know the best skimmers and filters i can get because it only comes with a stand hood and light with the tank. prolly lookin at a 40-50 gal. Thank you all in advance. trying to remember alot of stuff from memory but had a 4 wheeler accident and dont remember alot about the tanks.

I would go with a square - for one it will be cheaper, the more corners a tank has in general the more expensive it is. Secondly the fewer corners the more viewing space IMO - i've seen hexes that kinda look neat, but then every angle you have corners to look at. Third it will be more difficult to find lights (other than what comes with the tank) and filters.
I assume you aren't buying a pre-drilled tank, so the easiest option would be a hand on the back filter (HOB). This is what i'm running at it works great on my 29 gallon. The other option would be to run an overflow box on the outside of the tank, then run the pipe into another area to filter via fuge, sump, or wet/dry. I personally would love a fuge but i'm waiting for a drilled tank to do so.
My only advise (well at this time) i just to take it slow, there are a lot of steps involved in setting up a new tank, and this forum is a great place to start. Just take it slow and read read read, research, and read some more. Then when you think you are ready for some fish and inverts (starfish, crabs) read some more :)

Really good advice. Hexes are difficult to get the flow right also and very deep.
Are you just buying from your LFS or are you willing to go online?

im more than likely just buying the tank at the store, all my fish will prolly be from this site with the equipment. All my sw fish i bought from here before lived a very long time. They got some sw fish that are cheap but im waiting for this new fish store to open but it might be awhile. Its going to be a slow proccess. But i just miss the beauty of the fish and corals. looking at fw compared to sw is sooo boring.
