You wouldn't need to re-cure the rock that was already in there, just the rock that was out of water for awhile. Just replace the water that you took out with new saltwater. Have you tested your tank water lately?

bridgewater nj... why?
and also i have been asking people around here at pet shops and stuff.
the guy said that i should leave the rock in since its already in. leave it in for 2-3 weeks if it stinks. after teh 2 - 3 weeks do a large water change....80%.
the rock has been in the tank for 24 hours now
what do you guys think? im about to test for ammonia right now...

dont leave it in take it out and cure it!
Dont ask that guy anymore questions either IMO he doesn't give good advice.
Shogun and 1journyman have 10X that guys knowlege in the skimmate of their skimmers(this is just an estimation from reading all their posts and their lack of ever saying any thing dumb like its in there so leave it).

The only time rock gets shipped and added straight to the tank is when the tank is new and you want the cycle to start.
You asked for advice, it has been given to you about 10 times. TAKE THE ROCK OUT. Take it out and scrub it off, recure it in another container. If not you will be on here in a week asking why everything died.

when u put uncured rock in a tank before cycling what happens to all the die off on the rocks? does it eventually go away or what?

All of the die-off or dead matter turns into Ammonia which which is the beginning stage of the cycle which is the process of creating beneficial bacteria.
If the tank HAS been cycled Ammonia will still be produced by the rock because the amount of die-off from all the rock is more than good bacteria can handle so to speak.

ok so im going to take 5 gallons of water out of our tank and put it in a new 10 gallon tank i bought along with power head and heater. then im gonna replace the water in my DT with 'real ocean water' from *****. does this sound ok to you guys? all i should put in the tank is the uncured rock right? none of my old rock? and will doijng all this make everything ok for me and my tank?

and is it ok to take out all my live rock(for like 10 min) to make sure i can get out all the die off out of my tank?

Your plan sounds perfect. I would leave all of the old live rock be in your display tank. You should be good to go!! Best of Luck!!

ok so thanks for all the help everyone. i have a 10 g tank with all the uncured live rock in it. i scrubbed the rock with a toothbrush but there is still some goo and stuff on it but i figure since its curing it will be ok. i have a heater and a power head. now for some last questions...
1. it STINKS....what can i do to make the basement not smell like a gutter?
2. the water is like brown in the curing tank becuase after i scrubbed it with the toothbrush and put it back in the tank some stuff fell off... is this ok?

i just tested the water in my display and curing tank. display is .25-.50 for ammonia and curing tank is 2.0+.
2 hours ago i took out 7 gallons of water. added 5 of the ocean water and 2 gallons of ro water. sg is at 1.020 or 1.021.
do you think the ammonia will be down in the mornign since i just added 7.5 gallons of water? if not what should i do. is this really high for my dt? will the wet dry help clear it up along with some nice encrusted live rock in the tank?!!!!
