I am setting up a 20L with a 20 Long Sump. This tank is going to be my bare bottom with live rock Nano Sps Display. I plan on drilling the tank myself, but my true problem is plumbing. I wnat to set it up as a CL with a SCWD. I am wondering how many holes to drill, what sizes, and what size return pumps id need.
Please i need help from people who have done this before.
Thanks in advance and have a great day.

about 30x turnover. soo around 600 gph after loss. do you think this will be enough flow with a bare bottom? do you have any suggestions on Hole sizes and pumps. I was thinking mag 7 but i heard they need to be sealed first.

I've heard mixed things on mags being non-submerged, you make the choice, but be aware there are people that have had problem. Have you determined what you intend to have as your sumps flow? You could just run one pump and no closed loop as your sump won't have substantially more flow than the DT.
It's not like most sumps people run that are less than half the size.

What i think i am going to do:
Drill 2 1" Drains, one on each side of tank
Add DIY Overflows for each Drain
For the return im goin to do 3/4" Return Split by loclines and forget the CL
My return pump i think will be a mag 7
do you guys see any probs with this idea.
Thanks

I wouldn't pass on the CL.....30X turnover on a BB isn't excessive.....without having to worry about sand blowing everywhere you could go more with the addition of the CL.......I don't understand what you mean by the Mag needing to be sealed????

i have heard reports that when used in closed loop type systems, the mag 7 leaks, and just wondering if there was a way to seal it. That is the only reason why i was going to forget the slosed loop idea. What pump would be good in a CL given the tank size and flow. Could i bump it to 60X turnover?
If i did do a CL would i have to dril six holes in my tank?
2- 1" for sump overflow
1- 3/4" for return
1- Intake for CL
2- Return for CL.
This seem like a lot of holes in a 20L. But do you see any problems with this.
Later on tonight i will post plans for my sump.
Thanks for the info.
Have a great day
Rob
