i'm sitting here watching my dog die :-( the vet says he has heart disease, a heart murmur, kidney disease, the muscles in his butt are so worn down he can barely walk and he's got a tumor on his chest that may or may not be cancerous but we didn't have it tested since they can't operate anyways. vet says he doesn't have many days left so i took him from my parents tonight so he can stay at my apartment with me but now i'm just about to tears everytime he breathes funny or moves awkwardly...so some cheering up would be great right now!!

Good looking dog. You know it is always hard to know when it is time. Although your dog sounds like our Sam. He had leg problems, lumps all over his body. He even had a lump so big on his chest that it grossed out anyone that came over. They were supposed to take it off once when we had an operation on him, but they forgot. I was so proud years later when we took him to the vet and the techinican said, "Is that a mass? That is the biggest one I have ever seen!"
When I took him in they kept calling him "she"
I finally figured out why.
Go get your dog some cheese and give it to him for me.

Hey sorry to hear about your dog. I had to put down my beagle last weekend after getting hit by a truck. It was blind and got hit in its head so its personality was gone. I saw it once before letting them put her down, and it was sad to see her in such a miserable state.

Mike, What part of your story is supposed to "cheer her up?" You might want to take out some of the details. More of a "I just lost a pet recently and know what you are going through" type of post.
I mean the Steelers did lose last week and now this, give the girl a break.....

lol, yes, i have been suffering some over the past few weeks...
and i tried to give him a piece of cheese - he won't eat it. the only thing we can get him to eat are arby's roast beef sandwiches! he scarfs those down and won't touch anything else - not even his dog treats. it's so awful b/c he has those darn beagle eyes that just get so big and sad when he looks at me :-(

ha, no i appreciate it. the steelers loss was rough but our team was pretty beat up and just not putting their all into it. still a pretty decent game to watch tho.
and i appreciate the effort. to be honest i think it'd be better to put him down cuz right now we're just sitting here waiting. it wouldn't be so bad except i'm home alone since my roommate went home and my boyfriend is away for work so thats why it's so difficult

Well I don't know of too many "normal" dogs either.
Every dog has that wierd or funny thing they do.

putting my dog down november of 2006 was the hardest thing i have EVER had to do and i boo hooed and boo hooed with every ounce of my soul and it felt like someone was riping my heart out...while spending the last few minutes with him before we did it a lady walks out of the vets office and sees me hugging and petting him with tears in my eyes and she begins to talk to me an my mom and the whole time i am think what the HECK is this lady doing talking to me i dont care about anything she has to say and she mentioned this poem to me so because of this woman i have this poem forever and you can look it up but i will post it but it is called RAINBOW BRIDGE....
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I feel your pain. We lost our dobie a few yrs ago. she held on for a long while, until I told her it was ok. she could sleep now. I miss her very much. She was like a child to me. At least now she isnt suffering. There are no words, but know it does get a little easier. Sometime I think about her, and still get tears, but we had 10 yrs together and that makes me happy.
Hugs to you

Sorry to hear about your dog, Keri. :(
I have been raised w/ beagles my whole life (currently have 10)
But, I have learned that Most all of them leave this world with a tumor, or disease.
Beagles are so fun to have though
