hey everyone,
1stall let me thank everyone on here for the help they have supplied me and everyone else. this is my first post but ive been reading for months now, all the advice and knowledge paid off and i have had a successful ssaltwater aquarium for several months now. but thats not my question.
i have the opprotunity to buy a used aquarium. its a 150 gallon all glass with absolutly everything, the guy does not have time to take care of it. the water is good, has 3 fish and a star serpant, all which have been alive for 2 years. theres alot of live rock in it cover with green algea, he has no shrimp, crabs or snails. substrate is aragonite, and sand. 3 power heads 2 overflows protien skimmer and 4 96w bulbs hes selling it all for 500 dollars, is this a smart buy, i have all the time in the world to do stuff.
else wise, the tank is cycled but needs to be moved, how should i go abt this? theres a lot of live rock, how should i clean it with out ruining the eco system or hurting the live rock? what should i do about the substrate? should i keep the water? i can keep the fish alive in my other tank. should i clean the sump and all the power heads, how fast should i get everything up and running? and anything else u need to know or suggest please let me know.
thanks for the help in advance

it's a ok buy.. i say take as much of that water and sand as possible.. ( you can buy some trashcans or even use a igloo ( sp?) what you do is put a big trash bag in t=it.. then fill it up with water os sand.. then u tie the bag.. that way u can move it around with no spill to worry about) as for the rock.. i say put it in a container with a powerhead and heater.. then let it sit for 2 weeks in the dark.. ( no light to algea die) you will lose some life but ehh you do get rid of the gha.. and yes clan whatever you can before you set up the whole system.. i mean.. time is not a issue for the fish and such cuzz you have a tank for temp housing... gl

IMO, I would move everything inside containers and put everything back in as I set it up. Don't worry about the algae for now. Let the tank run for about a month to see if everything is all right then add clean up crew. The more you mess with it sometime, the worse your making things to be. Get some large CLEAN trash cans, wash them clean with hot water, no chemicals. Get one small container for the fish, couple containers for rocks and be sure you submerge the rocks within the water. Put the rest of the water in the other containers, then another container for the sand. Another container for the equipment. Then move the tank and set it all back up just like it was. Make sure you have some water that's mixed and ready for the new tank. You can clean the power head and the sump. After you set the tank up and put everything back in, you fill in any loss water then let it run. I would do a 10-20% water change in a week and check your water condition. Let it run for a month to see if everything is normal, then add a clean up crew to clean off the algae. That's what I believe in doing in my opinion! :happyfish
