need some new fish... looking for advice

I posted this on another board, last evening, and received no response but it might be geared a little more toward a beginner topic, so I'll give it a go on here. thanks!
My girlfriend and I have a 29g tank and have recently lost 3 of the 4 fish that were inhabiting it, leaving us with one false perc clownfish + a peppermint shrimp and assorted snails and hermits. we're looking to get some new fish to replace the ones we lost.
we are currently considering a midas blenny, firefish (one of the ones we lost), purple firefish, fridmani, splendid dottyback, green chromis, flame angel, bicolor pseudochromis, six line wrasse, and twin spot hogfish.
realizing that we can't get ALL of the above, I'm looking for some input to see if anybody would recommend any of the above or others not listed. Also, how many fish is too many for this size tank?
also considering a cleaner shrimp... any difficulty with the peppermint currently in the tank?
any help is greatly appreciated. thanks!

Id say that at most you could keep 5 fish in there, but that would be pushing it so I would go with just 4 fish. Id be careful if you get the sixline wrasse, firefish, purple firefish, or the pseudochromis because they can be aggressive towards other fish. Also if you are planning to have corals, the flame angel might nip at the corals. Id probably get a blenny if it were me.

All of them sound okay but that earlier responce was right, if you want corals in your tank you shouldn't get a flame angel. I reccomend the cleaner shrimp, I myself have two and love them. Plus they do your tank a favor by picking the parasites and stuff off of other fish. If you stick your hand in there they will clean your hand. Pepperment shrimps are good to, both shrimps are hardy.

I would stick to one firefish in such a small tank.
also look at pygmy angel-they have beautiful coloring and are very active.
I would go
clown
one firefish-either reg or purple
pygmy
and some type of blenny

did u find out why ur fishes died...i'd figure that out first then work on getting new fish..but anyhow..i'd go with 2 clowns..sixline wrasse.and a yellow watchman goby..cleaner shrimp is great..and peppermint shrimp are also easy and will get along with other shrimp...29g is a little small for most dwarf angels...but a cherub angel might do..after that u should be maxed out imo

we're working on figuring out what happened to the other fish. I will not buy any more until I'm sure they'll be ok. It's a little mysterious, but it seems to have been a problem with our heater. There were no marks on the fish, water levels were fine, and there had been no changes to the tank, otherwise. the water temp, we discovered was pretty low and the heater didn't seem to be working so we replaced it with a new one and the remaining clown seems to be back to normal. perhaps it was cracked and leaking something or electricity into the water?
I want to monitor the clown for a while and see how he's doing before I introduce any new fish to the tank. I'm just looking for some suggestions as far as numbers, sizes, and specific species.
I really appreciate the advice. thanks!
oh... and muliple clown fish in the same tank have to be the same species, correct?

If you really want to be able to monitor your temp, you should invest in a Ranco temperature controller. Its a little expensive but it will ensure that your temperature is where it needs to be.

Correct; and unless they are already a mated pair, or two juvis from the same tank, even two of the same species usually won't get along. Especially true of larger clowns like Maroons, fires, Cinnamons, etc. Years ago, when everything in the hobby was "try it & learn", I had a maroon kill another maroon while he was still floating in the store bag. (Yeah, I QT now)
