Need to change substrate

I need to change my substrate from colored aquarium stones, to sand...is there an easy way to do this with out taking the water out...or do i have to take it out?

Are you talking about a 10g aquarium? Do you have much currently in it?

I have fish and inverts. Along with barnacles and fake plants
