Not exactly sure, I have some purple shrooms with spots and some of them have faint green streaks, not exactly stripes though. A lot depends on lighting. This picture doesn't show the streaks, I'll have to see about getting another one. BTW, sorry about high-jacking your thread teen.

I've got purple ones. They look different depending on their location-light and water flow. Too much flow makes them unhappy and green. At first I thought wow they are GREEN.
THen we figured out that it was a bad thing.
OOPS! My wife calls it "death green".
Good thing shrooms are tough.
I wonder if green ones turn purple when they are unhappy. . . :notsure:

Hi puffer, My colt is down low in my tank under 250w MHs. They do fine up higher but I dont have room for any there. You could try them them lower if you want because some of mine are almost in total shade and grow too. Just keep an eye out incase you think you should move them back higher.
Another pick for the cause....This spot is where that colt was but I moved them to start this mini coral collection...The tang says " what the he..."

Reefnut...your the FRIGIN MAN  I took your advice went to the store you were talkin about and WAM  there they were.....so I gotem :joy: YAHOO. I also purchased some blue ones :joy: Thanks Man you did me a huge favor. The orange ones I have are not attatched to a rock though....They are like a huge cluster of them...they keep flowing around the tank because they are so light. Any suggestions :needhelp: I was thinking of attatching them to a rock with a rubberband...I just do not want to hurt them.

Yeah a rubberband between the polyps should keep them in place so they can attach to your LR. It won't hurt them.

sry i didnt reply in a while, i just got home from work, and just got on the computer. well, i havent talked to my mom about it yet, and yes im going to buy the lights myself. im 17 and im making money at work, but it all goes into my fish tank, or playing paintball, i just kinda need my mom to o.k the purchasing of new lights. those were all nice pics u guys posted, thx a lot, it should help me out a lot.
so far, i have a 45 gallon tank with about 20 lbs of live rock, 1 orange skunk clown, 2 peppermint shrimp, a brittle star, and some snails and hermits. the light im looking at is a 400watt metal halide with 20 k bulb. is the lighting good enough to support most corals in my tank (its 24 inches high) will it be able to support clams too? im not looking into any stony corals, just the most common like zoos, frog spawn, hammers, polyps, shrooms maybe a some type of clam, etc... i also have a wet/dry right now, good, or no? should i get rid of the bio balls and make it a sump? i have a 65 watt pc right now on my 45 and i was wondering if that would be a good 10 gallon refugim lighting?
thanks too all who posted, and any info on the questions above would be great.

so as long as my water quality was perfect at all times, i would be able to keep any coral out there? is this too much lighting? also, how often do these bulbs need to be changed, and how much does a bulb cost?

Water quality, flow etc. yes.
For a tank that deep I don't think it's too much. The 70 I am getting is 25 deep also and I am thinking of getting a 400w myself.
Good bulbs cost between 75-100 dollars and need to be changed about every year to year and a half.

Not trying to start an argument but IMO I think 400 watt MH might be too much for a 45g. for a beginer reef. Just thinking about heat and algea problems ect. Unless you have an overflow to a healthy refugium w/ macro and can get a chiller or UV steralizer if needed then might want to think longer about it. I have 250w MHs on my 180g and every thing I have does well and I have the fuge, UV and chiller too. Plus 250w SE or 150w DE will be less money and less on the power bill. Just thinking....

would a 250 watt with a 10 k bulb be better? would i be able to keep clams under that also?

If you plan to run a mogul end 20k I would go with the 400w!! This is assuming you want sps and clams.
IMO a 250w DE MH would be nice... with a 12k, 14k or there abouts for the bulb.
