Need to raise magnesium level

I ran a magnesium test and found my level a little low (I got 1200ppm). Has anyone tried the B-Ionic Magnesium? It's available at my LFS and easier for me to get than order online. Is there something better available? Thanks!

I have never tested for magnesium...
Is it important?
Borneman's "Aquarium Corals" says importance not proven.

Some people say that magnesium is important, personally I haven't found this to be true. By the way, 1200ppm magnesium is about the proper range that most people find suitable in their aquariums.
If you have a high biological need for magnesium, such as many sps corals, a ton of coralline, then it is probably good to test for it etc.
In a coralline algae cookbook that I read awhile back the author described how to dose kalkwasser (which I do, and have had wonderful results) and to also dose magnesium, which makes coralline algae explode under certain spectrums of light (I think 14-20k MH's)
Good luck!

I read that if you have a reef tank, your magnesium level should be 1350. Having the proper amount of magnesium helps keep your calcium level high.

Well, I decided to get the B-Ionic Magnesium since it comes pre-mixed and is easy to dose, plus it's easy for me to buy. I'll let everyone know how it works out.

depends on where you are in the country. agway should stock it, as would most home depots or lowes, but it is MAINLY a deicer. it is also used to keep dust down on roads, and sometimes put INSIDE tires for some odd reason.
there are websites that tell you the dosage you should use. That recipe i showed is generally a 2.5 cup per gallon of alk and calcium DIY solution.

If i have low mag it def shows effect on my coraline it will start to die then when i got it to the right level which is between 1200 and 1350ppm you should be ok. I have to dose every day. Its plays a big role in my tank. I dose with B-Ionic and it works good.
