square spot anthias is even more hot pink and can get to 8" but dont acclimate as readily as Lyretail. Painted (pictilis) anthias are also hot pink (amonst other colors) but are expensive ($100-150) and dont acclimate much better than pink squares. many anthias have at least some pink and I cant think of any fish with hotter or more pink than anthias. research their upkeep 1rst. all anthias require more care than your average fish.
my male lyretail

Have you ever had any problems with the powder brown in the 100g tank? I was thinking about adding one to my stocklist to go along with a purple tang. Can you give me any info on powder browns?

Thanks!
I think both tanks sound ready for anthias. I have around 30x turnover and your tanks are taller than mine (same height and width). Male lyretails do fine singly but must go in before anything that might pick on them (applies to anthias in general). I would go with 3 females though only because one female will tend to dominate the other females and the more there are to spread around the better. 1 to 2 can work though if added at the same time and the planets line up right.
What is herim? I can't even find that word in the dictionary.
LOL too funny! Herim is a muslim dude that lives a few houses down. I did mean harem as explained.
I havent had any problems with the powder brown in a 100g. since its a 6ft 100gallon it favors a 125 (minus 4" of height). So far has required nothing different than the common hippo. No issues to speak of. I would have put him in before the purple. dont know if a purple will allow it to happen the other way around.

I always learn something new every day on this site. I didn't know they made 100 gallon, 6' tank. Do you have a full tank shot?

How about a rose-band fairy wrasse? They come in a lovely shade of pink, reefsafe, easy to care for. :cheer: There are others that are pink too...look for the fairy wrasse photo library. The mystery wrasse is also pink, but may go after inverts.

Hi, I have a lyretail antheas which I purchased about a month ago to live as the only antheas in my ninety gallon. He is beautiful but not pink. He is a rosy orange on the top of his body fading to yellow on the bottom. The only pink that he has is some hot pink spotts on his pectoral fins. He is very bright and very active and lively and is not at all shy. He only ate live brine shrimp for the first week and a half and would taste flakes and spit them out when I gave them to the other fish. He finally got hungry enough that he started eating flake with the other fish.....he would not touch frozen but I only tried it twice on him. Most fish that I have had learn to eat different things if other fish are eating them. The flakes that I got him to eat are Ocean Nutrion's Brine Shrimp Plus....says on the package flake food for flavor and coloration, it also says it has other seafood, plankton, algae and vitamins. This male seems very happy in my 90 with the 6 inch majestic angel, pair of clowns, royal gramma, bicolor blenny, and sixline wrasse. He is so beautiful and one of my favorites. His bright coloration makes my perc clowns look pale. I would definately buy one, but don't expect it to be pink unless you see one in person that is pink. I think the other members pink one is the exception of variation but not the norm. The one that they have in the picture of the ones listed for sale on this site should give you an idea of the orange and yellow of the male lyretail the picture even shows the hot pink spots on the pectoral fins. Mine is a little bolder and brighter in color than the picture here. Have fun, Lesley

Stan, that is a BEAUTIFUL tank!!!!! Is it still that clean?! I'm very impressed. I for one like it because it's not so over crowded with rock and coral, gives the fish plenty of room to swim, even though it's not a tall tank. VERY NICE!

Edit: What kind of lights do you have?

It is not a female...it looks like the male on on this site, not the female and was sold as a male. He does have that long pointy spine on his dorsal fin like males have too. I think that most of the males have rosy orange tones much like your females. I think your male being pink is just an atypical variation but not the norm. Lesley

thanks again! the pics are from 2wks ago and I do my best to keep it looking that way all the time. I'm at a satisfied point as far as fish stock. I feel like I'm at a point where I have the max fish I can have an maintain water quality and prevent looking overgrowded. Its still alot of fish for the the type of reef tank I want it to be but so far I havent had any trouble with water quality. As for corals I have three acropora heads I've had for two months and since those have done well I basically only plan on adding SPS from now on.
lights are just two 175w SE MH with 13k bulbs nothing fancy:

Stan, thanks for showing me the pics of your lights. I was wondering if I could get away with just two retro fit MH on a 6' tank, and looking at yours it looks like I can.

Edit: Do you need a chiller with those lights?

I believe you. I actually don't have one myself, was just thinking maybe it switched sexes on you as I know they do that at times.

no chiller but without fans in the canopy it runs low 80's. I plan on adding a few fans.
Those orange males are Maldives lyretail males. If you are buying online you need to ask where they originate. Some sites sell both.

Well, my tank right now is between 79-81 with just my small double T-5 lamps, so maybe MH wouldn't be a good idea. My husband want's MH, so maybe if he's willing to pay for a chiller.............
