Need wiring help. Anyone...PLEASE

Hi to all of you out there. I was thinking of upgrading my lighting from the 175w metal halide to 250w. I bought two of the Advance ballast and got ahold of two grounded plugs. I decided to try let the LFS wire it for me. He told me it's easy to do myself.
But, there are some things I don't understand. Below is a picture of what I have avail. Can anyone out there help me wire this thing?
BTW - the LFS says I need to use both the 120v and the 277v wire plugged into the wall. Something about that doesn't seem right.

just cap off the 277 lead you don't use it for 120v
what other things do you need to know

all three white wires go togther, the red wire from the ballast go's on the black wire to the light and the black wire from the ballast go's to the black wire on the power cord and the green wires go togther and hook it up to the ballast case like i have
