My daughter is going to Lake Mary the first week in November. If you don't find any by then I can send some down with her.... (They drive non-stop down.) How much are you wanting?

Um is there any chance that you could possible "ship" me some and i could pay for the shipping, i am desperate for some, but absolutely cant see mysepf spending 35-40 dollars on sand, something that i can get a wal-mart for $2 ( i know it is LS, but your missing the point,lol)...But yeah, i dont know how that could work, i have never done nanything liek that before, or anything live at all in fact. But just let me know... thank you again.

Your 5lbs of live sand will seed your plain sand if you give it a little time. I have 80lbs of base sand in my tank right now and once my rock is done with its cycle I am planning on adding about 10-15lbs of live sand. You dont need to use all live sand.

But what kind of playsand can i use, i heard that some have things that are bad for an aquarium, is there a kind or brand to look for, or something to look for when looking at particular bags?

I believe you can use any aragonite based sand. Not entirely sure though. My LFS had 40lb bags of aragonite sand for around $20 a bag and that is what I used.

I have used silicate quartz based sands in all my tanks without a single problem. I don't use a phosphate reactor and have no silicate issues or phosphate problems. It is all hype to get people to spend more money. While there is no downside to using silicate based sand, there are benefits from using aragonite based sands. The aragonite acts as a natural buffer against changes in pH. Albeit the system would have to have pretty drastic pH dips, it does seem to maintain proper alkalinity and pH balance. Also, silicate sands do not breakdown unless under extremely acidic conditions for a marine tank.
