i dunno if im postin this in the right area, but has anyone noticed that in aquariums, you look at reef exhibits, and people, not just little kids, say "LOOK! its nemo!" after anyone sees that movie, the word clownfish is completely erased from there mind, and its replaced by nemo. same thing w/ dori. it may be a little stupid, but does anyone else think thats annoying?same w/ spongebob, how much u wanna bet that a kid saw a jellyfish at a beach, and(after watching spongebob)treid to get jelly off it by grabbing the tenticals?! dont get me wrong, spongebob's a funny show, but its also stupid.

I often wonder what people would call their own clowns had "Nemo" not beed aired. I wonder how people used to refer to their ocellaris. Was it all false and true percs??
I just bought a Nemo, and I was wondering...

I finally gave in and bought a occellaris clown for the tank about 2 months ago. My daughter is almost 3 and has seen "Finding Nemo" about 100 times! I've convinced her to call him Marlin Jr. She still slips and calls him Nemo sometimes. By the way, he is now my favorite fish in the tank now. Lots of personality and does not take any s**t from tankmates!
I really wanted to name him Pagliacci.

That's mature, they are children, learning...so teach them. I am not understanding the problem and the rage that goes with children calling the fish Nemo. They ARE children, someone needs to teach them, let it be you, but smacking them? Really. :nope:

hell yeah smacking em. it's not my job to teach little kids. it's their parents. i don't care if they are little kids or not. if you worked at a petstore you would become the same way.

Having small children, I have seen this movie at least once. . .. .
There is a scene where the dad clown fish tries to tell a joke. Because he is a "clown Fish".
Clown fish is used through the movie. People don't look at micky mouse and say look at the RODENT! Or Bambi and say look at the whitetail dear! and so on. . .
Anyway, Nemo may have drummed up a lot of business for public aquariums and pet shops, so it can't be that bad. My little ones know because I'll ask, "Yes honey, but what kind of fish IS nemo?"
My 2 cents

That's fine - I can understand your perspective having worked both at an LFS and a public aquarium....it gets on your nerves for sure. But please watch the tone. People have a right to contribute, you have a right to care or not, but if not, it doesn't have to be written down here. :)

I thought this was a discussion board, not a RANT.
My mistake.
It really is a pretty good story.

wow i didn't think a thread could go on for so long about a cartoon fish...i will agree it is a neat movie, but drop it... and call your fish whatever you like.... as for teaching kids... i agree it is the parents job... and as for smacking em.... oohhh i have wanted to smack kids for far less than this... hehe

If you work in an aquarium, it IS your job to teach children, adults, etc. If you work in a pet store it is your job to share knowledge and advice. Besides, from what I've read on this and all other on-line chat boards, LFS empoyees are like lawyers - everybody here hates them. (Personally I haven't reached that point yet.) So what if people call then Nemos and Dori/y's? Come up and explain that actually that's a Clown and that's a Tang. You have the perfect opening for a dicussion and to teach somebody something. If you hate teaching...perhaps you're in the wrong business and should host your own cubicle.
