well i took out my rock with 2 or 3 different types of zoos on it and i was going to frag it but then i got kinda nervous about doing it. when i took it out of the water it looked like it dripped out thick/syrupy water and i wasnt sure if that was the toxic stuff or what? im also not sure where or how i should frag this. it is a pretty small rock with tons of polyps on it and some are growing on others and criss crossing. im just not sure how i should go about fragging this. ill post a picture.

cut and glue. You need the krazy glue gel that works underwater. Wear gloves always and I would even wear goggle in case you accidentaly rub your eye or something.

Fragging is no problem and the only way you are going to learn it is to practice. It is interesting I have the same type of rock, the green zoos and also orange/green zoos in the same colony. Kind of makes me wonder if the orage/green ones will eventually turn green. OK enough of my rambling, now for the bad news. You need to separate the large polyps away from the other ones. Or else the large ones will take over the rock and you will lose all of your pretty zoos. Not right away mind you, but eventually it may happen.

Wow, so Zoo's won't just grow onto the surrounding rock like other coral (ie, Xenia)? Because my zoo's are on a tinsy tiny rock.

they will grow onto another rock, it just takes a while, and fragging speeds up the process

i dont no what to cut though, do i just cut the stem part before the polyp? or do i cut the rock?

Scrape it as close to the foot near the rock as possible. I was nervous when I did mine like I was hurting it but NO. I either rubber banded, glued or even sewed the frags depending on what they are (thanks Grumpy). But if you glue definatly use gel glue and don't be afriad to let it dry outside the water/tank for a moment to bond well. When I first did it I was nervose having the frags out of the water I put the glue on and put them back in the tank. They didnt bond well and came off the rock wihtin a day.

You can cut the zoos right at the rock, or what I prefer to do is actually scrape some of the rock right below what you are going to frag. Usually the rock is fairly easy to cut, if you are using the right type of cutter. This way you can put the glue on the rock part. It makes it a little bit easier.

Not sure of the technical name of it so I took a picture for ya. Make sure to use a new sharp blade.

its a roofers knife, similar to a utility knife but the blade is not retractable like a utility knifes blade is.
the image below is a box cutter. the blade does not lock in the out position.
I use a bare razor blade because they are less bulky, definatly not as safe though.

no. you need to lift the base tissue free of the rock then cut the flesh that is between the polyps.

I have xenias to burn in my reef and occasionally take a frag or five to my LFS for credit. They give me some rock rubble and I strategically place those near the xenias...week or so later, voila!! Xenia frags. Come to think of it, I'm about due for a harvest. Back to the LFS for some rocks.

and then i just glue the bottom of the mat?
do i put the glue on the mat or the rock when im finished?
how do i peal the mat? with the gloves on i dont htink i would be able to use my finger nails or anything. should a razor blade help?
thanks for the picture it did help. i just want to make sure i totally get it before i do it.
