I was numbed, shocked, horrified. I work in cardiology now, but had been an ER nurse for some 10 years previously...including Bellevue and Presbyterian...
during 9/11 I worked at Montefiore up in the bronx...Everyone I know went to work whether they were on or not...anyone who could get there got there, and stayed as long as they could...But the horrible truth is that there were relatively few patients coming in...there were so few survivors. It was actually quiet, and quiet in an ER is a chilling thing during such a catastrophic event...I will never forget...never...never. I drive to work via the nj tnpk and every day I commute in I still glance over thinking I will see my twin towers...And then I remember the hole they have left in my heart. 2 years after,
I actually was asked by the township to submit a proposal for a memorial sculpture. I did, but unfortunately my idea was not selected. I may still try and do it.
