Never Forget

I must admit that over time I am guilty of "forgetting". Not the incident, but the impact. The emotions, the people, and the unity it created. Once the dust cleared I got back to my normal life which was easy since I knew no one in NY at the time.
But you are right, and I thank you for the reminder. Nothing good can come out of "forgetting" this tragedy. While watching the clip, I took a moment to try and refeel what I did the day it happened and I feel guilty that I have become so numb to something so huge, so devastating, so...powerful.
9-11...what a day.

I travelled to NY and took photos of ground zero in 2003. There were so many people there, just looking. All nationalities. I wondered if that many people had come to see the towers when they stood as the tallest in the land. It made me feel good that so many people did (and still do remember) and came to pay respect. I still have the "Terrorist Hunting Permit" that I purchased from Peter Martines at the New York City Police Shop on Metropolitan in Middle Village, NY. It is between the first two photos of the album we bought at ground zero. For nearly 60 yrs. ground zero was Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I hope I never have to see it describe something new. I now live a few miles from Camp Pendelton and frequently see members of our all volunteer military. My daughter, 6, makes it a point to say hi and refers to everyone in uniform as "hero". She makes me so proud.
So,....if you're in Oceanside and happen to be in uniform, don't be surprised if a 6 yr old girl with long blonde hair walks up and just says "hi". It's her way of saying "Thank You" and she speaks for us all.

they even have testimonials from people who survived the collapse from inside the buildings.. i think its 4 hours long total, but it was well worth it. Im sure if its not going to be on again you could order the DVD's
after seeing this, you tell me America if we should still be over there... I support our troops, our president, and most importantly the war.

I REALLY don't want this thead to turn political but I think a lot of people forget why we invaded Iraq in the first place. Saddam had a deadline set by the UN when he was supposed to allow weapons inspectors in.
He was more than a month past the deadline and the UN was too lame to do anything about it. So we did.
God bless the US.
To keep this thread non-political and friendly, here is a picture of a puppy biting bubbles.

i do fully support the military, but i think the non-military public in the us may be off. i notice those ribbons on every freakn car around here are only sold in gas stations ownd by oil companies. driving up the price of oil by bush family war. who happens to own a part of that.
9/11 was the most horrible thing since pearl harbor and yet we are still "dickn" around over there not solving anything. we sent a message not to screw with us in wwii that has made us look soft with the iraq/afgan war doing nothing. we are just there being sniped. a star football player in my small town was gunned down 2days ago standing guard.
bush sr, regan and hussein used to be owners of one of the largest arms company in the world, imagine that.
i believe this war should've been taken care of quickly and efficiently like hurricane katrina. (oh wait, that was another thing our leader forgot about)
anyways, here's sfw pics of women soldiers from around the world. everyone can relate to that.

K-Mart, Walmart, and Target all sell those magnets as do a few local Grocery stores here. It isn't just gas stations.
Unlike during WWII, we are forced to fight a much different form of war. In WWII we were able to bomb whole cities with indifference. Meaning we didn't have to watch for civilian casualties. We also completely obliterated 2 Japanese cities with impunity. We could NOT do that now without political reprecussions on a local and global scale. Wars are fought differently now due to all the politics our government and people have involved. So, of course we look weak compared to then.

Do not compare World war 2 with this war. There are a lot of factors that are different and the two can not be compared. This war will win out if you compare results with cost.
First and foremost, our involvement in world war 2 last four years roughly. That is it. Not a long time when you compare statistics between the two wars you are comparing.
Let's look at monetary comparisons first. In the 40's, the war cost roughly 288 billion dollars to run which translates once inflation is factored in, into 3 trillion dollars. This war to date has cost us 200 billion dollars (afghanistan and Iraq). So if you average out the time table it doesn't come near the cost of world war 2.
The cost in participation was high also. 12.2 percent of the us poplation participated overseas in world war 2 while our own paricipation is at 2 percent now.
Now lets look at the cost in lives. World war 2 cost us over 400,000 U.S. citizen lives. with also over 150,000 injured. This war to date has cost us a little over 2500 american lives and almost 8,000 injuries.
In every which way you compare the two, we are handling this much better. Our casualty to survived injury ratio is much higher. It seems to me, that the American people would NOT tollerate the cost to drive the same point home as it was in WW2. If they would, you wouldn't hear so many complaints about the cost now.
Keep in mind I did not add in the costs for the aftermath of WW2 like I did with Iraq and Afghanistan. Historically, the war with Iraq and Afghanistan is done, both governments are defeated and toppled. We are in the aftermath..........The aftermath of World War 2 cost us even more as it became the cold war and the rebuilding of Europe.
Seems like a lot was spent by our country just to get the don't mess with us message out........We are doing a pretty good job doing that now at far less the cost all the way around.

My firm opinion is 10 to 20 years from now, history will do as it always has, and leave emotion out of the equation and simply give the facts.
History will tell:
The murderous dictator of Iraq was dethroned and put on trial by a jury of his own people.
The minority elite in Iraq were deposed, and democracy born.
The oppressive Taliban was completely destroyed, along with all of their bomb-factories and terrorist training camps.
I also firmly believe that once Iraq becomes a successful economy (as almost all countries we defeat do), democracy will spread in the middle east. It will start with Iran when the next generation is tired of hearing old mullahs and crazy fanatics.
The Bush-bashers and nay-sayers of today will be looked upon in 20 years as we now look at vietnam protestors. Sure they may have loved the country just as much as all of us, but they were misguided and hurt the overall effort of the US and its soldiers more than helped it.
The people who bash the government are always going to bash the government no matter what. They said we were stealing oil in Iraq. When it was apparent that we aren't doing that, they changed course and said that Bush is raising oil prices to line the pockets of his family and the families of other wealthy oil-companies. The funny thing is that Bush tried to drill in Alaska quite some time ago, which would have more than likely avoided this spike in gas prices that we have today. We as the american people voted for the congress and the house members that denied the drilling in Alaska. We the american people are now feeling the consequences of that choice now as countries like china and india are buying the oil we need.
Ps- Darth Tang.... don't forget the lives lost by our allies in WWII. Ukraine and Russia lost more people than anyone. The Ukrainians lost millions of people....more than all other countries combined. We are conducting ourselves in Iraq and Afghanistan very well, with a minimum loss of life on all sides.
