So, I went to one of my LFSs to get my first coral and when I picked out the small little zoa frag, he said I needed to feed it, is this true? I thought they could get their food through photosynthesis... I know you can feed them some other stuff, but I didn't think it was really necessary..

yeah its not required...i just bought a green button zoa frag with 5 small heads about less than a month ago and now i have about 14 heads...all i really do is provide adequate lighting and put it in a separate container inside the tank to keep it away from my inverts and cuc...

its not necessary to feed them, they get more than enough thru photosynthesis with enough lighting, but it wouldnt hurt to feed them microplankton? every once in a while... plus theyll grow faster

could you buy microplankton or is this something your tank produces...?
Yes you can buy it two popular brands are DT's Phytoplankton and Marine snow. I prefer the DT's but others have had good success with the Marine Snow.
