Hey all, I am staring a new tank I just bought a 135 gallon and it has all the reef setup lights (metal Halidie, VHO, Florecent, and Moon Lights) filters (huge wet dry) skimmers, refugium and plenty of pwer heads. I am taking the refugium off and putting it on my 55 because its going to be turned into a reef tank, anyway, in my 55 currently I have the following fish
Picasso Trigger
Red Volitian Lion
Yellow Porucpine Puffer
Scopas Tang
Lawnmower Blenny
FoxFace
Well, I will be taking the aggressive ones out and putting them into my 135 along with a....a shark, I knowwhat everyone saysbut i very much trust the guy at the LFS and he has had theis shark forabitmore than a month now its about 10in long and in a 75 gallon with niger trigger and dogface puffer, so Im going to try it in my tank.Ive heard everyone arguing and being prettyrude to each other about this topic of sharks and tank size but I would like to get some feedback about what yall thing and also anyother good tankmates
What would be a good tank mate? how should rocks be arranged? howmuch sand should I have in the tank??

Well, it will be a definite improvement for the shark, being as your tank is a lot larger, but what kind of shark are we talking about here? Most saltwater sharks cannot be in anything smaller than 300-400 gallons. Are you planning on upgrading any time soon? The shark will need it.

Having a shark for a month in a tank this size with a dfp and a niger trigger is not a success story. It's actually pretty darn stupid! I can almost guarantee that most experienced hobbiest on here are gonna feel the same way.
I'd strongly advise you not to try this. Your 135 might be o.k. for a little while, but this shark will definitely outgrow your tank in a short period of time. A 300 gallon tank would be the absolute minimum for a bamboo shark long term.

Also you can't keep a shark with a trigger, and keeping a lion with a trigger or puffer is a risk as well. You can trust the guy all you want, but bad advice is bad advice. A brown banded grows to over 3 feet in length, thats longer then your tank is front to back. Do you honestly think a shark can be comfortable like that?

I would definitely tell you that that is no no......trust people here, they do not want to sell you anything. Do not do this. It will probably end very badly.

So what exactly do you want to know then? I don't intend to be argumentative, or rude at all, but if you're solely going off the "LFS guy's advice" why post looking to hear opposing views if you just going to do it anyway? I'm sure the LFS guy has a couple recommendations for tankmates as well.

If he's the same guy who suggested keeping a Picasso trigger & the puffer with a lion.....well, lets just say I agree with everyone on this thread, except the lfs guy. BTW, sharks not only need a lot of room, they are usually very difficult to keep.

Well guys thank you for allof your optinons, I am very much considering not doing the shark now, I'll tell ya though i have had my puffer with my trigger and my lion now for about 6 months and they are all friends lol well they all get along now in the 55 gallon.
What does everyone think about doing a sting ray instead?

Rays unfortunately are the same. The require a large tank and are very fragile and need excellent water.

IMO, all these fish in a 55 (Just the volitan gets too big for a 55) makes for very crowed conditions. If they are all very small, you may be ok for a short time. But, as they grow, I think you'll lose the lion and develop other problems. Too little room= stress= fights. Also, IMO, triggers and lions simply don't belong together. (and puffers and lions are very iffy). Sooner or later, the trigger will show his true genetic make-up and shred the lions fins; then finish him off. There is a reason every good author on SW fish recommends not keeping these fish together. There are also plenty of reasons why hobbiests seldom keep sharks or rays; for very long anyway, in spite of the number of folks who try. I can never recall a successful shark thread on this forum. Although I'm sure someone will have one; someone, somewhere has done about everything. But, those are exceptions.

Well I have had this mixture for a while now, I bought this large tank for the reason that I knew the lion was going to need more room, I am sad I cant have a ray or a shark, I am looking for something exotic at this point and I have been extremely successful keeping good water quality fo quite a while now. Any reccomendations?

First, I'd get the fish you now have into the larger tank and make sure all is going well before you add anything.

Maybe after you have like 6 months in a larger tank and haven't lost any fish, you could add an eel or something. I always think those look really neat and different even though in salt water they are relatively common.
