Hey I had a ? about live rock. Can you kill cycled live rock with bad tank parameters?
I started up a 15gal tall and put 30lbs of live rock from my big tank. It rode in the car for 6 hrs in a bucket of water. Anyways when I put it in my tank a whole bunch of bristle worms died and was floating around. I haven’t tested it yet but the SG was 1.026 so it was a bit high. Anyways, I just wanted to know if you can kill the bacteria that easy?
I will post some pics in a bit.

was the water from the tank when you took it down?
i would think they would be fine, i took mine down fron the lfs and the rock sat in the water for a day, i would think they died from temp change. un sure.
the bacteria will always be there.
if you used the existing water you shouldn't have a prob.

they traveled in the big tank water and then I just droped them in the nano with no water from the big tank. so yea they probably died from the temp.
how long do you think the nano will take to stabilize? I have a 1300 lph two 80 gph and one seaclone 100 skimmer. I dont have a test kit yet but i was jut curious when. oh and 15 nasarious snails.

how long has your tank been running now..
what are you params.
that will tell you if your tank has cycled yet

do you know if the rock was cured when you added it ?
that usually takes a couple of weeks to cycle.
i would say to wait to see what your water tests out like.
i would say about another 2 weeks depending on what your water tests out.
it dosen't pay to rush into reef tanks.
i had to let my 75 cycle for 1 mo. granted i had to have a lot more rock to cure.

Yea i know but the rock is out of my shark tank thats been running for a bit over 5 years. so the rock is fully cured and cycled.

I was reading some on these nano reefs that say that its better to not use a skimmer. That they remove allot more good than they are worth, what do you think?
here is week one no rock
and
week 2 with rock and skimmer

you should be fine then, i would make sure all your params are ok.
salanity
nitrates
nitrites
calc
ph
if those are ok you should be fine.
i've seen some of the bigger nano tanks at the lfs and they have skimmers on them, i don't know about the smaller tanks like you and i have ?
i don't have 1 on mine.

I was more worried about some of the other trace elements like Iodine. But the skimmer isn’t removing too much volume 2 weeks and it filled maybe a ¼” in the cup. Here is a pic of it all cleared up. I still need sand and to re arrange the rocks some. If I wasn't going to use a skimmer should i use a HOB or a canister or nothing?

I know that the seaclone was crap it was givin to me for free so i figured i would use it. I dont know if i could fit two HOB on there. I hear alot of people using Fluvals the LFS has some used bigger ones that they had on a display at a show. I am leaning twards traiding the Seaclone for a Fluval if the LFS will give me more than a cent for it. but i doubt it LOL
yea its De's tank its the screensaver on my XBOX its alwas on since i dont have tv right now. lol

is that all you run on your tank or do you have some power heads?

My fluval has sponge, carbon, chemical & bio filtration. I also run a fluval surface skimmer on the intake & a aquaclear 1000 powerhead. the outake on the canister puts out a decent amount of flow.

so would you say trade the seacrap 100 for the fluval and use the two 80 gph's? and call it good?
serpentar do you have a pic of the fluval on your tank (the serface skimmer)
