What kind of small fish can I put in a 2.5 gallon REEF tank? I just set it up today. Got a little bit of LS from my 24 Gallon and LR from the LFS, about 4.5 pounds.

Forget a fish for that size tank. How about a shrimp or crab. Although you will have great trouble keeping the salt and temp normal.

no. clown gobies are small and dont move much, but that is even too small for one IMO. how about a sexy shrimp?

Guess I will put a Shrimp in there and just make it a coral and shrimp tank. How about hermits with the shrimp?

hermits and shrimp usually do fine, but idk how they would react in that small space.

A sexy shrimp is fine. I used to have a 6 and 12 gallon. They are hard to regulate the temp and plan on top offs every day. Those swings in temp and salt can kill that shrimp.

I was going to recommend a fish but then I thought about 2.5 one-gallon jugs of water and how the volume of your tank is even less than that due to the space taken up by live rock.
You have a lovely little nano, but a fish might be out of the question.

how about a whale shark or a yellow tang?
(i hope no one took tht seriously)
but about that neon goby... they are tiny they just scoot around the rock and bottom it would be hard to maintain but if you can keep it good and make sure with someone els i dont know why it would be a problem if you boiugth it TINY and got rid of it when it gets too big.
maybe not but see how your perameters are after a few weeks.

Chocolate chip stars probably wouldn't be a good idea in a tank that small. They eat all of the beneficial fauna from the live sand even in a large tank. I don't know why they even sell them in the hobby to tell you the truth.

Those are sand sifter stars.
Chocolate chip stars are predatory and easier to keep in larger- non reef tanks.
This tank, IMO, is not suitable for harlequin shrimp unless only feeding asterina stars. A larger dying star in 2.5g? Likely to crash the whole thing, IMO.
