My little sister used to have a betta in it but she moved it to another tank so i'm makeing a nano!!! I plan to get one of thoose 10watt srew in PCs for lighting. I have a UG filter but from what i've heard they aren't great. Tomarrow i'm getting the bulb, a lil' heater and mabe a small filter. I also have a tiny(<80gph) powerhead. Would that + CC and LR (from my 55)be enough? The tank will house...
1 feather duster
2 sexy shrimp
1 pom-pom crab
1 blue leg hermit
1 bumble bee snail
1 trocus snail
some small corals

Also, i filled th tank with fresh SW and added some CC from my established 55. Will this cycle it? Should i add a piece of LR(w/o coral) from my 55? The only equiptment in the tank is a temporary heater and the small PH w/sponge.

I have a 5 gal hex. It is relatively stable heh. Though I only have one fish and a tube worm in it other than some cleaners. Have had as many as 3 fish in it at a time. (was trying for a firefish pair) No luck :(. Try and find a palm filter or the aquaclear (hagen) filter that fits it. Once you do that the powerhead can likely go. Don't want a typhoon in there. Good luck with it.

Sadly, the way the hood fits the tank no HOB filter will work. The PH is adgustable down to 40 gph so no typhoon.

The hood and the plastic cover were kinda air tight around the top so i was worried about overheating during the summer. Heres the solution, i made it out of spare mounting brackets for my seio pump(in 55) and a plastic zip tie thinghy. It's alot more stable that it looks, and the tape is just to hold the zip tie in place. I'll probably pick up the bulb today and add a piece of LR from my 55. (along w/frozen shrimp)

Get a fine tooth saw and cut a notch out the back of the flat section of the hood :) not so air tight and filter will fit then.
Or repeatedly score with a good box knife or equivalent.

Why you need the frozen shrimp? Just add the water from your established tank and you don't need a new cycle.

Now that i made that little stand thing for the hood i could probably get a little azoo HOB filter in there. (see pic of hood)

If i empty the tank and fill it with water from my 55 i wouldn't have to cycle? is it to late to do that or could it still work? If so that'd be great! NO CYCLE!!

Well i did some research and jhebi was right so i drained the tank and refilled it with water from my 55. I also got the 10 watt screw in PC bulb. I think i'll add some purple 'shrooms from my 55 tomarrow after it settles.

Actually that's not really accurate.
Bacteria needs time to grow on your rocks, glass, filter, etc.
Adding CC from your established tank did a lot more than adding water from an old tank.

Plus there is a fine sponge on the intake, i know it's still alot but if the current doesn't cause problems it's just extra filteration.

Are you saying i should wait awhile to add corals?

He's saying using water from an established tank does not make you avoid cycling.
