Welcome. IMO a canister is more trouble in the long run than it is worth, but it depends on what your goals are for the tank.
Some type of surface skimming to a sump/fuge would be better, even if you are just wanting a few fish. More rock before anymore livestock for sure.
Luckily thee are plenty here that will chime with lots of knowledge and experiance to guide you along. BTW, looks good so far.
what is SFE?

snowflake eel. i know i will need a bigger tank in time. will the SNF bother coral and other reef inverts? i have added more rock and will have a pic up soon. what kind of filter should i have for this tank? and what fish will be suitable with eel....shrimp, snails, starfish, crabs?

Welcome! Looks good! I have a 20 that I have Penguin Biowheel and Prizm skimmer on, I keep coral in this tank. I also have a 22 cube with a Biowheel and no skimmer (no coral). The Biowheels have worked great for me.

Welcome to the boards!!!
I think it is a great start. I would definitely add some more live rock. Also, things such as shrimp and small fish will be eaten by the SFE since they are not reef safe. SFE's are very pretty though, just have to be careful with what you put with it. Good luck and let the addiction begin

I bought the skimmer from this site but it appears they don't have them anymore, you don't really have to have a skimmer unless you want to keep corals. I paid about $80 for the skimmer.
The biowheel is a Marineland Penguin 200 (200gph for use with up to 50 gal. tanks) on both tanks. I bought them at the "chain" store you know the "smart" one.

I think your setup with a decent protein skimmer is fine. Do you need a skimmer? No, but it sure is helpful, particularly since you don't want to add tons of rock. The snowflake is going to produce a lot of waste. You'll want to have the skimmer to get it out before it turns into more ammonia than your system can handle.

They won't kill your fish, they only become a problem when they spread rapidly and over take corals. There are a few chemical product that will kill them,.

idk why? i know the mininum tank size should be 50g but i think it will be fin e in the 20g for qiut a while. its really small. i know they grow fast and ive seen them in tanks not much bigger and do fine. im gonna get a clown and maybe one other small fish and thats it. i also have 2 snail. 1 asteria and one turbo. also 1 peppermint shrimp. 1 damsel in it rigght now with the eel? would a clown and 1 other small fish be ok in the 20g?
