I have just set up a 20 gallon long.
I have;
35 pounds of Arag-Alive pink fiji
18 Pounds of Ultra Premium Fiji Live Rock pre-cured
17 Gallons of Saltwater From LFS
Hang On Tank Magnum Canister Filter 250
Tunze Nano ReefPack 200
Hydor Koralia Nano
Coralife Digital Thermometer
Ebo Jager Automatic Heater... 75W
So far the tank has been cycling for two weeks, i'm waiting for another 2 weeks and hopefully the cycle will be complete.
Once cycled i will get rid of the damsels and put:
False Percula Clownfish - Aquacultured
Clarkii Clownfish - Aquacultured
Shrimpgoby - Yellow Watchman
Purpleback Pseudochromis
Firefish Goby
What CUC should i use???
All i want is these fish listed above, Zoo frags, and Xenia frags.
What lighting should i use???
Will try to snap some pic's tonight and post them up.....
Thank for looking

the clarkii clown and percula cannot live togethor in that small of a tank they will most likely kill each other,
as for a clean up crew there is alot to choose from but pretty much just snails, peppermint shrimp, maybe sunk cleaner shrimp, sally lightfoot crab, porcilian crab.
and light fixture, maybe someone else can chime in.

get rid of the damsels right away, your lfs lied to you, they are not necessary for cycling and is down right cruel to have them. Your lighting depends on the corals you want. If you can, set up an overflow and sump/refugium.

Oh, zoos and xenia...
Power compact lights are fine here but I recommend t-5. They are more expensive up front but you wont have to replace the bulbs as often as power compacts so they are cheaper long term. Plus you will be able to expand your coral collection

for the lights, current usa has a nice one, the sundial, for the 20 long, its got a 30" fixture, 4x24w, T5HO, 2 built in timers, plus fans, its perfect for a 20 long, an you can raise any corals you want in it.
also, u may want to look into picking up an aquaclear 110, turning it into sump/fuge, its perfect for it, and like bpro said, take the damsels back asap, its cruel to use them to cycle your tank.
as for your stocklist, scratch the clarkii clown, get a pair of false percs instead of just one false perc, and you should be ok then

Well the LFS told me since i had live sand and pre-cured rock plus water from their tanks that two damsels would do just fine helping re-cycle the tank. Plus i can net out the damsels and literally walk 20 steps to the beach to release i live on the beach.
as for the sump/refugium i have no space for that thats why i got all HOB.
What is this aquaclear 110, turning it into sump/fuge DIY link??? please
thanks for all the input and trust me i have spent weeks lurking before i've come to ask these questions

Don't throw the damsels in the ocean. I'm not going to lecture you here, but that is not good. If everything came from established tanks your cycle should be finished but test it to be sure. I'm glad to hear that your damsels are better off than I originally thought, but if you don't want them in your final stocklist, then you should take them back to your lfs, or give them away to a local aquarist.

the xenia is neat in the begining but it really should be consisdered a nussiance item. Placement is everything it spreads to anything it touches.

Clarkii Clownfish - Tank-Bred
(Amphiprion clarkii)
QUICK STATS
Minimum Tank Size: 30 gallons
Care Level: Easy
Temperament: Semi-aggressive
Reef Compatible: Yes
Water Conditions: dKH 8-12, 75-82° F, sg 1.020-1.025, pH 8.1-8.4
Max. Size: 6"

Color Form: Black, Orange, Tan, White
Diet: Omnivore
Origin: Tank Bred - USA
Family: Pomacentridae
it may say 30g minimum, but ur talkin about a fish that gets 6" long when full grown, a 20 long is just not enough tank for a clarkii, much less a pair of em, your gonna want fish that generally max out around 3-4 inches.
like, my stocklist for my 20 long is gonna be a pair of b&w ocellaris clowns, a pink spotted watchmen goby, he's gonna be the biggest fish in the tank, but, i can live with that LOL, a purple firefish, and then, eventually, possibly LOL, a pygmy cherub angel.
and as for the ac110 mod, you basically yank out the guts of it, stick a bag of rwohapos in it, a bag of chemi-pure in it, and some chaeto, and youve basically got a hob sump/fuge.
hopefully someone will have a pic of that being done, cause honestly, i need to see it myself
. everyone is tellin me to do that mod, an thats what im gonna do for my tank lol.
now, that psuedochromis your lookin at may get too aggressive for your tank, everything ive read about them points to them being fairly aggressive fish. but, i might be wrong on that LOL

+1 on the xenia they grow like weeds and in a 20 gal they will take before you no it!!!! As far as the light get a goood t-5 light fixture cause you think that all your going to want is zoos and xenia and then you will want some LPS and maybe some low light SPS so pay the money and get a good light fixture so you have that option... you can also buy a HOB refuigum or goggle the auqa clear 110 DIY refugium.

your gonna hate me for this, but, if you put in a mandarin dragonet in a tank that size, you are signing its death warrant. they need larger, well, and i mean WELL, established tanks. the only thing the MAJORITY of them will eat is copepods, and you cant breed enough of them in a 20g tank to feed him, as a mandarin will eat 200+ pods a day, by himself, and thats not counting in the fact that ur other fish will help him eat too LOL.
Green Mandarin
(Synchiropus splendidus)
QUICK STATS
Minimum Tank Size: 30 gallons(most will tell you 50g or larger, with a large sump/refugium under the tank to support a large, reproducing, population of copepods.)
Care Level: Difficult
Temperament: Peaceful
Reef Compatible: Yes
Water Conditions: 72-78° F, dKH 8-12, sg 1.020-1.025, pH 8.1-8.4
Max. Size: 4"
Color Form: Blue, Green, Orange
Diet: Carnivore
Origin: Indo-Pacific
Family: Callionymidae

id trade out the firefish for a purple, to me, they look a lot cooler :p and thats a good list for a while, once your tank is well established, you can maybe add a small pygmy angel, im goin with the pygmy cherub, but its gonna be a while before i get him, an u have to be careful period, but, for now, ur list looks great
and if you want, email me, an ill send you some links to a couple of sites with the DIY ac110 refugium mod lol
my email is chovuk1982@yahoo.com

sounds like a good stock list. yeah bos knows his 20 long reaaaaally well. only took him a few months to finally get one! dont listen to your LFS anymore, they just want money from you. thats pretty wrong of them to tell you to cycle your precured rock with damsels. if you decide to go with metal halides, 30 inch sunpod! I would rather have MH over t-5s..JMO

+1 putting a fish into a ocean that they did not come from is just being unreasonable hobbyist.
