New 24gal. Aquapod- advice/build thread

Hey guys, im pretty new to this site and have been trying to soak up as much info as i can. I just broke down and sold my 16 gallon saltwater tank and ordered a new 24 gallon aquapod (should be here by the end of the week). My old tank just had about 12lbs of LR, clown fish, damsel, cleaner shrimp, and a porcelain crab. I had the tank running for about 8 months when i decided to upgrade. I want my new tank to be a reef tank, and i'm looking for some advice on what else i need to buy or modify on my tank. I'm pretty handy so i dont think it should be much of a problem if i need to modify anything on the tank. Thanks in advance!

After looking around some more, i went ahead and ordered a maxijet 1200 and a koralia 1. If i understood right, i'd like to use the maxi-jet to replace the stock return pump because i've heard the stock one doesnt put out much flow. I'd also like to incorporate a fuge into the back of the tank. I found this blog and was wondering if anyone had any luck doing it this way.

maxi jet and koralia were both good choices. I would have gone with a koralia 2 but it should be fine. And i did the DIY fuge also and it works awesomly lol. Easy to do only hard part is finding a good light for it.

I like the azoo firefly light, cheapest way to buy it is through fish dot com and buy the whole razzle dazzle aquarium kit for 10.50 and then just use the light :)
Yeah, I've been keeping up with your build. The foam/rock work you've done looks amazing and I have been seriously considering doing something similar. I just dont think i am creative enough to try something like that. How much time did you put into the wall?

really not that much planning or creativity. Pickup a can of foam and try it on a piece of newspaper or something disposable and see what you think. If you like the look I recommend using as much rock,coral skeletons, etc as possible and as little foam as possible (just enough to get everything to stay) and remember that you can carve of the extra later.
Really the reason I did it was for the easy of placing and moving frag plugs, if it was just for looks I'd have gone with live rock. the foam definitely prolongs the tank maturity process.

Yeah, i'd like to get this thing started as soon as possible. The foam is deffinetly something i want to try in the future.
I think i'm gonna go ahead and order that light you reccomended for my fuge. Where's a good place to find a refractometer?

ill check that out. I went ahead and ordered the 24gal. stand for the aquapod. I've heard horror stories of the top de-laminating after contact with water, so once it gets here, i'm going to replace the top of it with a slab of granite that we have left over from replacing our kitchen countertops. I think it will look pretty good, and will deff hold up better than the wood top that comes with it.

Well, my tank came in over the weekend and i am just now getting around to setting it up. The stand i originally ordered was put on back order from the store i bought it from so i went ahead and bought a different one from wal-mart, which i think i'm going to like a lot more. Hopefully i will get it cycling within the next couple of days. I am kind of confused on how i'm going to set up my fuge in the back chamber. Does anyone have a picture of how they set up there aquapods? or maybe a link to a build thread? I've found quite a few threads on nanos, but they seem to be set up differently then aquapods.

Water and sand is in, i'll aquascape it once it clears up. Should i run the power heads while the sand settles? or will that just make it take longer?

Got the water, sand, and LR added and i am really digging the way the LR looks. I also went ahead and took out the aquapod filter sponge and built a rack out of egg crate. On the top row i've got some cheato, second row chemi-pure elite, and bottom row purigen. Does this sound alright? Also, i bought that light that greenreefer recomended, it seems to be working great, but my only issue is I cant keep the aquapod hood in place with it hooked onto the back. Is there any other light that would work well? I've seen led's that you can just submerge in the water, which would allow me to keep the hood on as well. I will post pics in the morning.

And before i get flamed, that hermit was hiding in my bucket of LR that i kept from my old tank, and I figured he would have a better chance at surviving in the tank than any where else i could put him.
