Does that sound about right?

Hi tina..It sounds like you are trying to do too much too soon. I am in the same boat but have read so many books especially "the conscientious aquarist". And I learned that patience is extremely important with this hobby. And like you...I have kiddies that wanted Dory and Nemo too..So I made sure I bought the tank to provide for them.
That was actually why I started the hobby.
Another thing is that if I were you..I would just concentrate on the Fish only tank and get accustomed to that. There is very little room for error in a 30 gallon. It is not as forgiving as the larger tanks. And in order to have an anemone you really need to have prestine water conditions. Preferable use premade salt water from the LFS or invest in a ro/di machine for your water changes. And one great avoider of headaches is to have a quarantine tank for your new fish. The should really go in there for 3-4 weeks first. Otherwise if they get ick or sick in any way...they can take everything in your tank with them.
I know this may sound overwhelming..but it is important to really research as much as you can to avoid this
. Plus, it's your hard earned money and LFS really do not take things like that into consideration. Honest LFS are few and far between and they tend to tell you what they think you want to hear...
Good luck and I wish you the best!!

It sure would be nice if the people that worked at these stores knew as much as the people on this message board. I guess I got a little suspious when I was getting different stories about what is possible and what isn't. Even though I am pretty disappointed with what you told me, I sure am glad I found out before I made the big purchase. Thanks
